blackwidow 0 #1 September 11, 2002 Have any of you used SkyVenture or other tunnels? What do you think? Is it worth the travel?
jncoughlin 0 #2 September 11, 2002 I went there right after I finished AFF (I was on a business trip so didn't have to foot the bill). It's worth it in my opinion. I only did the ten minute session but I felt it helped quite a bit. My stability improved and I was able to alter my fall rate after some pointers. I also learned how to make "sharper" turns. Believe it or not but 10 minutes is alot. You'll feel it the next day. One bummer note: some how I tore the cartiledge in my left shoulder while ther. I think I did it trying to get cocky and fly through the exit door; I didn't make it. In any event I've been grounded for 7 weeks now and probably have to have surgery. bmcd308 0 #3 September 11, 2002 I've been to SkyVenture, and my take is that it is worth it IF you take your own jumpsuit. Using their big baggy jumpsuit changes everything. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
Stacy 0 #4 September 12, 2002 teh tunnel (skyventure) is definitely worth it. I'm a bit of an addict. It's amazing what you can learn in even one 2 minute go in there. SKyventure has mirrors up by the video camera to watch body position, etc etc... I recommend going with a coach, skyventure has some on staff I believe. I'll be there Friday (again)
riddler 0 #5 September 12, 2002 I have over an hour of tunnel time. Been to the one in Vegas twice. Vegas is the worst one, but I still learned a LOT. I first went there after failing AFF level 3 twice. After I came back, I zipped through the remaining levels with no trouble at all. It is worth the trip and the money. It's worth going to one of the nicer ones (Orlando). I was back there in April and learned even more. Definately worth it.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Watcher 0 #6 September 12, 2002 I have about 6 Hours in the tunnel, and It rocks. Helps though when your coaches are Ian Bobo, Shannon Pilcher, and the rest of the PD guys If you want to seriously learn, goto skyventure in Orlando. TerryB 0 #7 September 12, 2002 I noticed that Sky Venture offers a ten minute coaching pkg. for $175. I am assuming that pkg. includes one of their staff flight instructors. Are they skydivers? Would you recommend that type of package? Or recommend seeking a different trainer to use at Sky Venture ...I’m 56 and on 6/99 I started an AFF program completing two jumps. 11/00 while at Skydive City Florida I made it to AFF-5. Total jumps 9. My two jobs / working weekends combined with normal skydiving training delays, wind / weather / tandem etc. Santa Cruz Ca. area, regretfully created a time challenge in obtaining my training that I could not get around. I want to start over again and believe the wind tunnel could help me to make it this time...Sorry for the book...Hope I am using this site right (1st. time)...Thanks TerryB. PhreeZone 20 #8 September 12, 2002 Its staff instructors and most are on 4 way teams at the nationals right now as a guage of their skill. Arlo on here is staff... send a Private message to that user name for more details. If you made it to AFF 5 why not have a go out of a plane again? You still have to learn to fly a canopy at some point if you want to live after a jump... Freefall is for show, Canopy flying is for the dough (life)Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Watcher 0 #9 September 12, 2002 Well many of the instructors are skydivers. Many great flyers. Skydive U offers a tunnel training aff package to get you to learn everything also with a skydive U instructor. http://www.skydiveu.com/flash/taff.htm It might be worth it. I did not find any trouble with AFF, but the tunnel is pretty amazing, I had about 40 jumps when i went in, had 1 hour of one on one training with Jaime Johnson (Touch of Majik 01) and she took me and made me an excelent flyer. Ian, Shannon, and David then took the team in for 5 hours and showed us how to rock. We ended up winning 1 hr and 10 min of free tunnel time from NSL this season that we are just waiting to get back in and use. Tunnel Rocks!!Jonathan Bartlett D-24876 AFF-I
Kirils 1 #10 September 12, 2002 My wife and I were there in Dec of last year. We each 40 min in the tunnel. The coaching was outstanding! I was SO embarassed...I had no idea I sucked that bad in the air. I had problems at first holding altitude when I turned. I couldn't sitfly very well, if at all. TerryB 0 #11 September 12, 2002 Thank you for responding...The wind tunnel I am hoping will help me to make it through AFF. It’s been two years now since I attempted AFF and failed. So I know I will be starting all over again. And where some have had no problem with AFF and sail through it that was not me. I know I will need canopy help also. Right now I feel I need to focus on obtaining help to make it through AFF. Thanks again...TerryB
TerryB 0 #12 September 13, 2002 Thanks you...I am considering Skydive U AFF Wind Tunnel program in Florida. I had concerns with the coming rainy season and considered waiting until November / December. (And that's what I possibly will end up doing), unless other possibilities surface... I also have been considering just doing the Wind Tunnel portion with Skydive U and return to Santa Cruz Ca...My free time seems to be during the wrong season so I'm pondering options and do appreciate your input...Thank You...TerryB
SkymonkeyONE 4 #13 September 13, 2002 Speaking of wind tunnels, I just spent four hours in ours this morning (0800-1200) with some GB club students and a couple of other instructors. Not a bad way to pass the morning. Chuck
