NWFlyer 2 #2 October 12, 2010 QuoteAny recommendations on friendly DZ in Florida for new A license jumper who wants to visit in winter from PA? Skydive City in Zephyrhills. Friendly people, great organizers, lots of winter events, excellent facilities if you want to camp out (or even if you don't). www.skydivecity.com (edit to add if you're flying in - Tampa is closest, Orlando not much farther)"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. normiss 851 #7 October 12, 2010 All wonderful selections, each with something different to offer. Sebastian has the beautiful beach and ocean scenery, large airport with plenty of places to land - including a golf course for off landings. A fun bar and a good vibe. Zhills, huge landing area, multiple Otters scheduled through the winter, everything you need on site, camping, showers, food, bar, also great atmosphere and those beautiful sunsets. Cheap hotels nearby. Deland has an awesome restaurant and bar - best selection of beer of any DZ in Florida, large airport, plenty of safe landing areas, a great place to jump and a number of aircraft. (PAC, Otter, Skyvan) Ask about camping and the bunk house, hotels nearby. Palatka is an awesome DZ too, Art is a great DZO, pretty scenery of the river, a super caravan, lots of landing space. You'll need to get a hotel to be comfy here as the DZ has limited resources on site. I can't speak to Clewiston, but have heard good things. Good luck, be safe, have a fun trip. skymama 37 #8 October 12, 2010 If you have a car and the time, try to hit all the ones that have been listed. I bet you'll have a good time at all of them, and it's fun to check out the different vibe at each dz.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Ron 10 #9 October 12, 2010 FL has many great DZ's. I'll give you my take on a few of the major hitters: Zhills: Great place for boogie style jumps. Organizers all over the place. Good bar and lots of fun. I lived on the DZ for years. DeLand: Amazing place. Great for team training. Fantastic aircraft and one tight run ship. If you are looking for fun jumps.... Well they don't normally have organizers and while there is some amazing talent there, they are normally training. I personally love the place, but not for "fun" loads. Lake Wales: Yeah, unless you want to do a Tandem... Go somewhere else it seems Titesville: Same owners as Lake Wales and seem to have the same issue. Sebastian: Great views. Bigger on Freeflying than flat flying. I have been there with my wife and done two ways since we were the only two flat fliers. Palatka: Fun place, been there a few times. They have a good vibe and I hear now have a Caravan. Art is a guy I respect. Clewiston: My current FL home DZ. A nice King Air and some really nice people. Skill levels vary but they are working on bringing the new folks up. If I could only visit one... Zhills. Close to a big city and they do a great job of being friendly. That being said.... come to Clewiston and I'll give you a free coaching jump. I bet you'll have a good time at all of them, and it's fun to check out the different vibe at each dz. I would like to add one thing. I seem to remember a lot of people freezing their asses off last year during the winter in Florida. Having spent a fair amount of time there I would have to say that the farther south someone can go the better chance they have of avoiding those "cold snaps" that the jetstream sends south to destroy the oranges and other crops. I have seen freezing temperatures all the way down to Homestead ( Skydive Miami now) where I starrted jumping back in the 1970's. I can remember freezing my ass there on some jumps. Check out the long range forcasts before heading down.. and Dec thru Feb... can get cold all the way to Miami. After that in late Feb and March... you should be good to go

Yeah, the other thing i can recommed s you NOT go to titusville or Lake wales. both are tandem mills, where you will wait HOURS for a single jumpThanatos340(on landing rounds)-- Landing procedure: Hand all the way up, Feet and Knees Together and PLF soon as you get bitch slapped by a planet.
