flyhy 0 #1 July 26, 2002 Imagine you get a line over on your main. Would you rather cutaway or cut the line with a hook knife?
Nick 0 #2 July 26, 2002 no doubt about it i'd cut away. Have always been taught that a hook knife is only to be used for a line over on a reserve and i have no eason to doubt that it is the correct thing to do. Nick Nick Gravity- It's not just a good idea, it's the LAW!

wonko 0 #5 July 26, 2002 nice point, Bruno . And it's good to grab toggles before going for pillow, if there is still altitude left. I had lineover last month and it cleared when i pulled left toggle all the way down. My lucky day of course.villem life is what you make it to be http://www.youtube.com/villu357 http://www.flickr.com/photos/skybound

flipper 0 #7 August 2, 2002 Pull the cutaway...those shitty little knives that come withthe rig will only break ....a lot of people dont realise that its fairly difficult to cut through suspension lines....I'm not saying that it cant be done...but it takes time....time you might not have to spare... flipper

riggerrob 643 #9 August 8, 2002 Several times, I have cleared line knots on Strong 425 tandem mains by pulling the toggles all the way down to induce a deep stall, then letting them up rapidly. When all the lines go slack, line knots usually clear. I used the same trick to clear a line-over on my Sabre. It opened in a spin, and I immediately considered cutting it away, but one look at the Fraser River directly below caused me to pause. So I pulled the toggles down into a deep stall, then let them up rapidly. The canopy had become rectangular. I breathed a deep sigh of relief, looked at my altimeter (1500') and steered for a small field beside the river.
dove 0 #10 August 10, 2002 Even if you go for the hook knife, you might not have a stable canopy with the line(s) cut so you may have to cutaway anyhow. Why waste altitude?
