Dytter flatline

Recommended Posts

I set mine at breakoff, pull, and 2k. I change the breakoff and pull settings all the time, depending on what I am doing. It is in invaluable tool for working with students and on those dives I set it for "their" hard times: 5500, 4000, etc. I always leave the last one set at 2k. On most of my RW jumps I have it set for 4k, 3k, 2k. On my wingsuit jumps I normally have it at 4.5k, 4k, 2k.

I use two, a pro track, and a pro dytter, I also have a skinny Timeout (a prototype that was given to me to test out---thanks George), so, depending on what I'm doing, what helmet I'm wearing etc, I have a combination of audibles......I've used old dytters (passed on to newbie) and a couple of timeouts that went the way of riser slaps....
Either way, they get set for break off +500 (varies), pull (varies), and 'hey pay attention' at 2000. Below that, I generally don't need reminding that things are getting big.
I set the first alarm high as I'm doing more freefly these days, its nice to be able to have a quick look around, clear some space etc, then wave off / geek in good time before you turn and burn....
Why two? Its beacause I rely on them heavily, a bad habit from my RW filming days. And sooner or later the batteries will give up on you......

Also, that flatline, at least for me, is a warning that it is too late to cutaway if under bad chute.

I'm curious to know what altitude you have your flatline set for.
Do you think it might be more helpful to bump it up just a bit and use it as an alert that you'll SOON BE too low to cutaway from a bad parachute?

Mine's at 4000, 3000 and 1500, the 1500 would be really f@#§&ng close to cypres activation, it's kinda like a last minute call, I usually track away @ 4000 for a few seconds, and if enough separation I pull, I usually hear the 3000 noise when my chute is opening, if not, the 3000 noise is my "throw away the damn pc"-sign

Stupid question..
A friend of mine let me borrow theirs this weekend. (I know BEER... sigh) The question is that I never heard the flat line out of all the jumps I made. I heard it going up to altitude at 1k, and I've heard the first 2, but never the third. Did I miss it somehow?
Aside from that, I can see why everyone is making a point that you shouldn't rely on it but on yourself to know when to pull
One shot... HEY!!! Mas Tequila!!!! Two Shots HEY HEY!!!! Three Shots.......

The Third is not triggered unless the speed is still above a certian amount at that altitude. if you pull high, really high you will only hear the first one under canopy and never the second one.

I have my first (break off) set for 5,000 ft. I like to break off at 4500 ft so it gives me a little reaction time.
My second is set for 4,000 ft. I like to pull at 3,500. When I hear it I give a good wave off and pull which should put me around 3,500 ft.
My "Oh shit" warning is 2,000 ft. This is my "stop screwing around with whatever you are doing and pull the reserve" altitude.
