Ok, who invented the collapsible slider?
_________________________________________________
as far I know a french man Pierre Auvray came up in 1987 with a central way to collapse the slider, then Brian Germain in 1996 came up with the design actually used by PD ( 2 lines )
anybody has more clue about this question ?

I can tell you that Para flite corp from cherry hill N.J invented and tested the first Ram Air(square) canopy and reefing system for deployment ,and Im sure they had to have something to do with the invention of the slider. Charlie Mack(Nitrochute) would know more about this because he worked at Ripcord Paracenter where they tested all that stuff. Im going to E- mail him and maybe he has more info about that.

In 1976, on a visit to California for a USPA board meeting, I had Jerry Myers of the Altitude Shop install a slider on my Strato-Star, replacing the ropes and rings it came with. Later, I wrote a story about it for Spotter magazine.
Elek Puskas, then president of ParaFlite, wrote an angry response to the effect that sliders had not been tested with StratoStars and it was irresponsible of me to report on what was in fact happening in the field. Subsequently, of course, ParaFlite began installing sliders.
Earlier, (maybe in 1974 or 75) I made a lot of jumps on a Volplane with a slider from Pioneer that had probably been built by Greg Yarbenet. It replaced the original hydraulic reefing system. I still have the Volplane, the hydraulic reefer and the slider.

Would you post pictures and an explaination of how the system works? Although it has been explained to me before, I don't think I've actually seen a reefing setup like that.

I think I already have, but I'm too tired to look for it.
I'm at PIA, where the Achievement Award was presented tonight to the grandsons of Floyd Smith, described by Dan Poynter as "Mr. Parachute."
One of Smith's patents, Dan said, was for a slider for round canopies. Later, he said, Greg Yarbenet adapted the idea for squares.

I can remember being at Zhills (69-75) and talking with a couple of guys who had been down at Steve Snyders place, in orlando i think, and had been test jumping for Snyder and his new "diaper" mod on the squares. Although I don't remember their names I do remember them showing me some incredible bruises all over their bodies from harness burns and opening shock while testing. They did have diapers on their rigs and we were much interested in how they worked. I remember they indicated that the system was pretty well tested and ready to go at that time.
