NickDG 23 #1 August 15, 2005 I think the best thing that could happen to skydiving is the commercial center goes away in favor of how it was years ago. Non-profit clubs. There eventually would be a club for every flavor of skydiving, There'd be clubs for vRW, clubs for RW, clubs for Swooping, and also clubs for people who only want to jump, laugh, and party. For such an open minded group of people we seem to be way too susceptible to being handled . . . NickD BASE

NickD 1 #3 August 15, 2005 But, if we really wanted to, and if we had the gumption, we could take skydiving back . . . We actually don't need Ben and Larry and the others, they need us . . . NickD BASE
wmw999 2,524 #4 August 15, 2005 You can anyway. Make your own DZ. What's stopping you? Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

slug 1 #6 August 15, 2005 I agree now It's ok for a quickie if you got to, but it's nothing you'd want to give up the wife/husband/SO for. We can take it or leave it. I think this is the same attitude that a lot of folks have about a lot of things after we get older. We wake up one morning and say WTF!!. Maybe it's burnout If I'm not happy at the DZ so why am I doing this every weekend? We can spend our time and money looking for/doing something else that will make us just as happyA DZ will always be there someplace, we still got our gear, we can always go back if we feel the need to get our knee's in the breeze. GreenLight 8 #8 August 17, 2005 It's how Elsinore kept coming back. TIme and time again it was through the efforts of the locals and it was usually a club. Then some A hole would come along and buy it out and ruin it. Purple Patty knows how to do it. Gary Douris knows how. Ivan Henry knows how to do it. Chris Kelly and a host of others know how to do it. Let's see, What would we need? Looks like we would need four things. 1. Airplane 2. Pilot 3. Runway 4. Sky Divers Sounds easy enough....Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question." sundevil777 102 #12 August 17, 2005 A reservation might be an ideal place for a DZ. Maybe no restriction on repack cycle. Maybe less risk for law suits. Maybe less taxes for the owner. Maybe I'm wrong about these maybes?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
cutaway1 3 #13 August 17, 2005 Yes you could go back, but because of commercial centers we have turbine aircraft that are nicer than that old twin beeach I first jumped out of. Skydiving used to be more of a total shared experience amonst a small group of closely knit people. But it has evolved into a very competitive sport where some people try to compete and really put alot of money and time into becoming better. Freeflying is so much like the early days of RW, no real rules, and the opportunity to do things for the first time they have ever been done, just like the years it took to make the first 8 way star. I remember those days, and when the group, the Arvin good guys were attempting the first big stars, not everone got to go on the load simply because they wanted to, they had to be at a certain skill and experience level to get on the load. Just like today. It's not uncommon for a new jumper to make several hunder 2 way sit dives before getting on a big load, for safety and the ability to fly at a certain level. To me one of the things that keeps me coming back to the DZ each weekend is the challenge to get more proficient, for me freeflying is very difficult, even to master the basic moves. If it was so easy, I don't thing it would have the same challenge. I probably missing something, but that's my 2 cents worth. Jack jefferies said it best, "every skydive is just play", some like to play really hard. Aloha, TimSCR-
