scottbre 0 #1 May 10, 2002 Every so often we all find ourselves on our backs in freefall, when we don't want to be. My guess is that more often than not it is the result of an exit or formation being funnelled.Anyway, my questions is, what do you consider the quickest and most efficient way to get back to your belly? I know a hard arch will do the trick eventually, and 1/2 of a barrell roll will work, but I am just curious as to any little tricks that people have discovered throughout your skydiving experiences.Turn the world off before you come to bed. SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 May 10, 2002 I just "flip" sideways when I'm on my back and arch. When I grow up, I want to be a post whore
GrumpySmurf 0 #3 May 10, 2002 Never really thought about it...I just think, "I want over, NOW!" and it happens. *shrug*Useless info, did you know ferrets arch in freefall - discovered this yesterday while terrorizing my twin terrors, toss them in the air on thier backs (yes I would catch them) and they flip over with thier paws struck straight out in a hard arch in mid air, every time - one of them hated it and ran and hid under the bed - the other kept coming over and standing up to be picked up for more. I thought only cats do this sort of thing.
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 May 10, 2002 I've heard of ball-masters in the US making a harness for a cat and letting it go in freefall - apparently the cat falls feet to earth even at terminal !! When I grow up, I want to be a post whore

scottbre 0 #7 May 10, 2002 Little bit off topic, aren't we? Turn off the world before you come to bed.
nacmacfeegle 0 #8 May 10, 2002 Flying on your back is cool, try some solos, doing just that, especially if you want to explore the dark side. I did a freefly with Omri last weekend and spent most of the dive on my back, he is a wee guy, I am.... well lets just say I am not a natural slow faller. Going on my back allowed me to stay with Omri. For RW, and general 2 d flying, what they said up above.......CyaD
riggerrob 643 #9 May 10, 2002 If I find myself on my back in freefall, I do a lop-sided delta. The delta gets me head-down pretty quickly and the lop-sided arms add a roll to speed up the process. Once I am in a chest-to-earth delta, I resume my normal arch to flatten out. This recovery technique works great with tandems.
