SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 May 6, 2002 Erm.... not sure. Looks like the ripcords been pulled, but nothings happening When I grow up, I want to be a post whore
phastasphuk 0 #3 May 6, 2002 looks like first jumpmaster just pulled students ripcord, container is open but pilot has not yet jumped out of the burble and student is just getting hold of ripcord by mistake.orthey both went for the ripcord at the same time.or its a new groundbreaking method in costsaving!!! JM is making sure that student dont drops ripcord when deployment occurs. Honestly, how many of us HASNT done that?I did it, first jump, didnt even notice until JM told me on the ground, she said "thats alright, but next one you pay!" never did it again, hehechrisHow would you like to stick with mehow much do you love to freefall
pilotdave 0 #4 May 7, 2002 QuoteLooks like the ripcords been pulled, but nothings happeningI think the container was just opening....no really big deal except they were fighting over the ripcord. That was taken by Martin Evans a Skydive Delmarva.... His website has a series of pics of a true student total malfunction.... luckily the reserve side JM had the reserve side main ripcord to pull. http://www.skyeyeskydiving.com/images/Ooops_ripcords_pulled.JPG notice the ripcord has been pulled. Then http://www.skyeyeskydiving.com/images/Traceys_opening_the_container.JPG and finally http://www.skyeyeskydiving.com/images/Finally.JPGYou can see his other pics at http://www.skyeyeskydiving.comDavehttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
billvon 3,073 #5 May 7, 2002 Nothing - JM was a bit faster to the ripcord than the student, and the PC is probably sitting in his burble for a moment.-bill von
skycat 0 #6 May 7, 2002 Actually I saw a video where the student pulled the ripcord and the pilotchute came out but didn't launch. The JM grabbed the pilotchute and pulled it out and tossed it into the airstream which launched it. As it turned out one of the packers had been stuffing the bridal between the bottom of the reserved container and the d-bag causeing the bridal to be stuck and not allowing the pilotchute to launch. wlie 0 #7 May 7, 2002 who showed him how to pack?
skycat 0 #8 May 7, 2002 I have no idea, but he was the DZOs son, so other than the rigger having a little talking to with him not much else was done. Supposedly though, he started getting lazy and it was easier for him to keep manage the spring with the bridle out of the way.Of course once he started jumping and had to jump his own pack jobs he suddenly lost the nick name spanky, cause that boy could make even the softest opening canopy slam the shit out of you. Staso 0 #9 May 8, 2002 are you sure that student actually has a grip on the ripcord ? i think it just looks like that becuase of the angle of view. look closely.
polarbear 1 #10 May 8, 2002 No, I think he (the student) has it. Otherwise, where did the bend in the ripcord come from? It looks like the student was late for the pull...this picture must have been taken at the perfect momment in order to not see the pilot chute. It doesn't look to me that the container is open yet. rgoper 0 #11 May 8, 2002 the student pulled the ripcord, but the jumpmaster took hold of it him self (probably afraid the student would drop it) the container is obviously open, you can see the flap just behind the students back, to the left of his head. the other jumpmaster is back there trying to either: find a pilot chute, or pull the d-bag out himself. the part of the photo i find interesting is that the jumpmaster, student, and cameraman are all oblivious to what's NOT happening, thery're still "hamming the camera" when i first saw this i thought, "this guy's in a bind" and don't even know it, i guess it all turned out allright though. polarbear 1 #12 May 8, 2002 Your right; I didn't see that flap open.
skycat 0 #13 May 8, 2002 Richard you learned via AFP right? In AFF after the student/main side JM pulls the Main side JM is suppose to track away and the reserve side JM hangs on until the student is ripped out of his/her hands by the canopy. so the Main side JM is doing the right thing, he/the student pulled and he is turning to track away. Which leaves the reserve side JM to deal with the mess behind the student if there really was one. That pic was probably taken the second after the ripcord was pulled. rgoper 0 #14 May 8, 2002 yeah, i'm aware of that, the timing of the picture couldn't be better actually. i didn't respond until i saw some responses of others because i think it's crystal clear what is going on! i'd like to see the video, it looks like the reserve side jm is saving the day though!
