KATO33 0 #1 April 18, 2002 Hello allRecently on a skydive We made my cheststrap loosened on deployment! When I felt it a cold chill ran down my back I thought I had miss-routed it. I checked it and it wasn't miss-routed just loose. My question is what could have caused this bad body position or what? BTW the opening was not hard I assume I had good body position. I don't know what happened I am truly puzzled. Any help with this would be highly appreciated. Thanks
SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 April 18, 2002 Have the friction plate checked. That shouldn't happen, no matter what your body position was. When you participate in sporting events, its not whether you win or loose, its how drunk you get.
RichM 0 #3 April 19, 2002 Hmm, this happens to me a lot. I bought my racer new last year and have about 150 jumps on it. If the chest strap wasn't turned and sown at the end I would be very concerned. Should I be concerned anyway?Rich M
sdctlc 0 #4 April 22, 2002 If you fly with a loose chest strap out the door to begin with you have a chanve of it loosing up a bit BUT if you tighten it down to the point where there is a little bit of tension between the two sides the friction adaptor will do its job. I tend to have it loose on face to earth dives to make an arch feel better and sometimes it will loosen up a bit. I would never consider doing that if the strap was not folded back and sewn on the end though. I would guess that if yours is loosening up it is because your not exiting with it tight, Scott C. LawnDart21 0 #5 April 22, 2002 Wait till your leg straps come loose on a dive, you'll pitch and as your canopy inflates, you'll feel this tapping on your neck.....which is your chest strap. Toggles are really really hard to reach too......It happened to me only once, my first thought was "what the fuck is that on my neck?" Then when I realized it my chest strap, I did my best Homer Simpson impression......DOH!!!!!"I live to EFS"Tom
riggerrob 643 #6 April 22, 2002 Two suggestions:In the short run, install an extra black elastic strap keeper around the buckle to discourage slipping. In the long run, ask your local rigger to sew an extra layer of Type 8 webbing on the back side of your chest strap, like a Javelin. This will make the chest strap too fat for the buckle to slip.
