88 Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Recommended Posts

I have a postcard of the jump into the olympics hanging on my office cubicle wall. I believe that I bought it at either UPC or X-Keys back in the mid 90's. Rich "Fang" Fenimore is one of the participants and I remember him showing us pictures of his trip to the Olympics. I believe he was one of the people on the green ring. He use to jump with a green frap hat at x-keys. One of the pictures that he showed us was of him sitting on top of the stadium hanging out.

Thanks John

Jan Davis was also on the lip of the stadium pointing the video relay to the media both for the practices and actual Opening Ceremonies. All who particapated in making it happen, I'm sure have memories of a life time.

Thanks again for your post.

That's Tom Sanders doing the Olympic Rings video flying.

Holy crap look at all the junk he wears on his head…

He’s got like 12 still cameras, 8 video cameras, a slide projector, VCR and Beta machine, laser beam, missiles, and a perfectly groomed Magnum P.I. mustache!

Impressive to say the least.

And with all that he's still a regular joe just like the rest of us. A great guy with personality to match.

I was in the blue ring closing the bipole facing Andy Gerber from the Knights. This jump and even all the practices we did before were gorgeous. Perfect organisation for this big event.

I seriously doubt Linda Wazolonski from the Ranch was in on it. I've known and worked with Linda for about 16 years and she never mentioned it, nor has anyone else. Never saw her in a green Vector. I knew/know a few people from that jump and Linda was never mentioned. Then again, maybe she's real humble. I could be wrong and next time I see her I'll ask.

Hey Kim, it's dm, I remember Linda telling me she was one of the olympic rings. I think skydivers were at opening ceremonies more than once. It must have been another time. Please do ask Linda. I'd love to know. And giver her a big RAnch hug from me.

I worked with Tom a couple of times and my favorite way to describe who Tom Sanders is...

I was walking past the 'packing room' in the hotel we all were staying after the bar closed, it's 2 AM and Tom is putting black tape around all the seams of all the cameras he'll be using for the shoot the next day...probably a dozen or so, a long tedious process.

I asked him if the cameras 'leaked light'?:)

I don't know, I've never given them the chance to.;)

He'd been getting things ready for 7-8 hours up to that point already....for > 10 minutes of action on camera.:o

It's always so enlightening to work with true PROFESSIONALS! B|

It tends to make ya take YOUR game up a notch or two.:$

well I'm not likely to see her till May or so, and I have no idea what her email is. So I asked Pete Clark and he says yes. But Jerome Bunker said no. What's important is that I was not.

Was there only one "official" jump? Could someone have been on another "unofficial" jump and not on the "official", thereby not appearing on any roster? We need some of our historians here to clear that one up.

Here is the photo of all participants. It has been a previous camp, I think a year before, with other participants who never jumps at the opening ceremony.

There were a number of "practice" jumps around the US, including one into Harvard Stadium in Boston (where a bad spot by a very well-known organizer left a number of participants landing outside the stadium.):S
It's quite possible she was on this one; I'll ask someone who was. (I was on the ground crew.)

Ok, unqualified as I am, I am going to try to name a scant few of these folks in Jerome's photo. I am not even certain some of the people I am naming were there, but I think so.

Left to right, in back, standing: #3 is Jerome Bunker, #5, Roger Ponce; #7 is Dan O'Brien; #11 is Tom Sanders; #17 is Tommy Piras

Kneeling in the middle row is a whole bunch of Knights but all I can name (even though I recognize all of them) are #2 from left is Charlie Brown, #6 is Chris Wagner. That's it on the Knights for me, but then # 8 is Guy Manos and #9 sure looks like Mike Truffer.

Can anyone confirm or add to this? Did Mike Raible get on this at any time?

The whole front row is a mystery to me.

Standing, #1 and #2 are (I believe they were on the team anyways) Daniel Paquette and Gilles Lebeuf.

thanks for the clarification. I guess the people sporting such a moustache were pretty numerous in these times :D
