Issue #17: 03/03/1981 That would be SNM #17 He drowned Feb 5 1981 in Lake Elsinore. TV commercial, he had a mal and used his reserve. He landed in chest deep water. Was seen waving arms and taking off gear. He stepped into a hole and took an hour to find him. That's what the article says. Someone else told me the same thing. He landed in a place he stood on the bottom of the lake with head above water and then started walking out. he apparently found some deeper water and drowned. .. howardwhite 6 #5 November 5, 2007 The 1981 fatality report, published in the July '82 Parachutist, reports (without naming names): "An ASO with 1289 jumps, filming for PM Magazine, had a problem with his main, did a canopy transfer, and landed in a lake. He was observed standing in the shallow water. As he started to gather in his reserve, he stepped into a seven-foot hole, and the weight of the helmet-mounted camera plus the reserve prevented him from getting his head above water."
