Snowman,

The seeds of dis-information germinate in the very article which touts 99.44% purity.

From the 4th to last paragraph:

"A German-born carpenter who had fought against the US in the Second World War was eventually arrested and sent to the electric chair on the most tenuous of evidence."

Bruno Richard Hauptmann was executed on 3 April 1936, in Trenton, NJ. Yet he is credited with having fought in a war which was some three years in the future. Not wanting to leave well enough alone, they had to claim he fought against the US. Cunning of the FBI to rely upon the ignorance of world history to propel this myth.

Perhaps the "Independent" could get their facts straight if they were from a country which actually had some involvement in the Second World War.

Of course it's connected to Whittington.

Hauptmann is arrested by Norman Schwarzkopf for the Lindbergh kidnapping. All so very, very Germanic isn't it? But it kept the civil population quiet until the US could choose when to enter WWII in order to 'defend' North Africa and the Saudi peninsula.

The US needed more oil and the delay Schwarzkopf facilitated was rewarded through the promotion of his son to the rank of General. What war did this son fight in? That's right, the Gulf War to free Kuwait's oil.

With 800 oil wells burning out of control (thanks to the war fought by Schwarzkopf) the only company considered was Haliburton. The CEO agreed to managing the oil well fires on the condition of some day becoming a two term Vice President, that CEO was Dick Cheney.

Whittington is appointed to the Texas Funeral Commission by none other than George W. Bush who was governor of Texas. Whittington has long been opposed to the death penalty and was active in investigating past executions (Hauptmann's perhaps) searching for evidence of misuse.

Cheney was made aware of Whittington's investigations by the FBI upon which he called George W. Bush to arrange a quail hunting trip.

Whittington is accidently shot at 5:30 (8 minutes AFTER sunset) by Dick Cheney. After being rushed to the hospital doctors begin the tedious task of removing shot pellets from the right leg, torso and face of Whittington. Doctors estimate approximately 200 shot were left in the victims body.

Considering the average shotshell contains 75 pellets one could assume there was more than one shotgun blast directed at Whittington and there has to be a cover up. Whittington has decided to keep his mouth shut and carry 200 small reminders of what 'could be' if you look too closely at the death penalty.

Texas remains the second most productive in regard to executions, first place - Saudi Arabia, oil and executions will forever be linked. Lindbergh lost an American born son to a German born kidnapper, who could possibly be surprised by the procreative retaliation exercised by Lindy gettin Lucky in Germany?

It's all so clear now.

I believe Italy has the longest trials and the
highest percentage of convicted who were in
another country asleep when the crime was committed.

Tonight is the Ariel Cooper shindig they have every yr. Just thought you might like to know.

I guess Galen will be there tooting his book. Interesting to see what shows up about that.
Since I can't have anything made with wheat, rye, barley, malts or yeast - Don't think Cooper would appreciate being toasted with a wine spritzer.

Question: How familiar are any of you guys (old timers) about non-military receiving chute training on a mililtary base or near one? I have read about some smoke jumpers who were trained at military facilities. The guys used for the Bay of Pigs trained in VA and other bases. Amphibian training was used also.

It was even indicated that Jack Coffelt (another forgotten Cooper suspect) trained to jump in the late 60's, but he would have been TOO old for military training - Right. (He was older than Weber so he would had to have been born before 1924). Coffelt was NOT military and is purported to have learned to jump later in life with a group of military personnel. This has purportedly been documented.

I have never heard anyone discuss this subject to any degree. I would like to know HOW, if not military, Cooper learned to jump - how this jumper could have fallen completely out of any known military loops.

Viet Nam and smoke jumpers we have covered. We have a list of paratroopers from WW11. Outside of WW11 my bet is a covert group or private industry. Didn't some of the power and pipelines use helicopters to haul supplies into remote area and were not chutes used to drop workers also in the 50's and 60's? These guys were either experience jumpers or trained. In the N.W. both pipelines and power lines were built in abundance - also lots of airport Construction.

Airport construction attracted lots of people looking for work. All of the above industries had their own helicopters and planes. Also one last thing - HOW or WHY would someone NOT have reported Cooper - someone had to know him? Anyone and everyone with jumping experience was looking at their buddies and lots of leads where generated...but nothing resulted.

What could Cooper have done in REAL life that would expose him to jumping, but would and could NOT be reported. Say Cooper was working with a covert group or stealing planes to sell for parts or for re-sale in S.America or elsewhere. Maybe he was actually trained by the military, but for covert operations or a special test run to be done with Boeings.

In the 50's and 60's our government authorized training for several things like this - the men that needed training were NOT military...but volunteers or programs that would get these guys out of prison faster...by doing their country a favor. Some may even have purchased a clean slate in exchange for their services. It was a known fact that many unscruplous prison officials arranged temporary furloughs for inmates to do favors for country and others or money. Jefferson was famous for this in the day.

Remember a speech made by a former president made during a time Duane was in prison? Since the wife of the times was with him at this convention - perhaps this was one of those furloughs?

Maybe a prior furlough was the service rendered. All of this for a commutation of sentence for a 6 time looser. Before you go gang busters on me - remember I am only offering suggestions to be explored. This DOES NOT mean I am referring anything or suggesting anything, just providing you with areas to search without my having to say a word.

You guys want to solve this case - now go where you have not been before. Do what I have been forced to do, because the rules do not alway apply. Go where you dared not go before. I promise not to interfer - but listen and read what you find. Will your search take you where mine took me?

Forget for a while about hasseling or riding me and do what you came to this forum to do. Solve the case....do what you came to this thread to do. It is within your reach - and you guys have all of the abilities and information to work for. All of the conventional means have failed, now THINK OUTSIDE of the BOX.

Nope on the dropping power or pipeline workers by chute.

smoke jumper training

That's basically it as far as I know. I've never heard of industrial parachutists. Piplelines and power lines in remote areda can be accessed by helos.

I saw an interesting use of a helo in Hawaii. A Hughes 500 with no markings zooms in and hovers about 50 feet above a "garden" rimmed by high trees on an adjacent property. A rope is tossed out and ten a big sack is dropped. A crewman rappels down the re
rope, disconnects and pulls out a big cargo net. He quickly machete cuts a big bunch of marijuana, shoves it into the net, purses the drawstrings, then clips himself and the net to the dangling rope. The helo ascends with crewman and dope slung below and heads away high and fast. No winch. They just carry the load somwhere distant and descend very slowly. I wasn't sure it was cops. The pilot wore sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt. No badges, uniforms or markings. Might have been a ripoff. It shows how an ordinary helo can insert and extract a person from an area too dangerous to land in.

Suspect that helicopter was DEA/HCPD.

sounds like something they do often

http://cannabisnews.com/news/5/thread5267.shtml

"The next day, nearly 20 miles away in Puna’s Hawaiian Paradise Park, Big Island vice detectives Burt Shimabukuro and Benton Bolos rappelled out of a Hughes 500 helicopter and into a grove of ohia trees to ruin some other grower’s day. In less than five minutes, Shimabukuro and Bolos had slid out of the helicopter, cut 110 2-foot pakalolo plants with their machetes, and flown off in search of more clandestine patches."

ACLU has complained about the helicopter flyovers recently
http://www.bigislandchronicle.com/?p=9797

Here's a picture of Benton Bolos showing off with his rappel gear circa 1998 (from page 9 of http://www.hawaiipolice.com/pdfDocs/AnnualReport98-99.pdf

(attached)

I also ran into some accusations of use of military helicopters on some drug raids in mainland US. Apparently some crashes too.

US company ATK has sold 3 Cessna 208 Caravan's to the "Iraqi Air Force".

Fitted with two Hellfire's apiece.

Attached is a pic of a practice loading up the hellfires on the Caravan.

I have just finished watching for the first time, Nat Geo's special: The Skyjacker That Got Away. I have a
number of reactions, most of them positive.

In my opinion, the Nat Geo special is not nearly as
negative as people have portrayed it here. In fact I found the special rather well balanced and a good general treatment of the whole Cooper case; something I think will be well-received by the American public. As the narrator says, this case is nearly forty years old. I thought the producers
put together a very good general synopsis of
the Cooper case and I especially liked Special Agent Larry Carr's contributions. I thought Larry did
an excellent job, and the producer did a good job of focusing on Larry's contributions at the appropriate
times during this film.

From my vantage point I thought his film was a
very fair general statement of the whole Cooper case, in the short time space available.

I come to the viewing of this film long after reading and even participating inthe various postings of people here who had seen the film earlier. I can
honestly say I see nothing trully antagonistic or
foolish in the statements Tom Kaye makes during this film. Tom is merely stating one theory of the case which as a matter of fact is rather refreshing,
coming as it does off the back of older theories
which have been stated before but produced nothing.

The theory Tom states, it is clear, is but one theory of the case, in a long line of Cooper theories. It may not be the theory Tom intended to give or would have preferred to give, but it is the theory he gives and he delivers it very deftly, in my opinion. Tom's delivery of the Lewis River theory comes off very well and Tom is to be congratulated, in my opinion. It is very clear to me the producers wished to produce something new and in that light Tom giving the Lewis River Theory makes a lot of sense. That theory has never been given a lot of publicity before, compared to say the Washougal theory
which has proven empty to date.

The actual historical fact is, the Lewis River Theory was one of the first FBI theories which emerged in the Cooper case just as Merwin Lake was identified
(first) as Cooper's landing zone. The Lewis River Theory may in fact be the oldest theory in the Cooper case, if specialists missed or dont know that!

The overal thrust of the film is to make people
think and to make them aware, and to advance new thoughts in a new generation, and in that light this film makes complete sense and every piece fits,
including Tom's contribution, in my opinion.

The producer of this film obviously wants to move
on and beyond the old canards which have plagued the Cooper mythology for years. In this vein both the Jo Weber and Galen Cook concoctions were passed over, completely. Only the fresh work on Christiansen was mentioned, and then McCoy was shown and covered briefly (and with this I was literally struck by something I had never noticed before).

McCoy was covered because as Agent Carr conveyed here many times, 'McCoy was the real-McCoy!'. a real hyjacker, caught, imprisoned, escaped, and eventually shot and killed when McCoy drew down
on the FBI at Virginia Beach, the same place Jo & Duane Weber would move to just several years later, where Duane Weber presumably became interested in McCoy and the Cooper story (Jo claims she and Duane knew nothing of McCoy or Cooper at Virginia Beach)!

A short film clip of agents leading McCoy away is shown during the McCoy segment of this NatGeo
film. At one point McCoy turns his face to camera and I was struck by McCoy's (apparent) resemblance
to the early sketches of DBCooper. (That is how this
struck me watching). On this basis alone (in my mind) its no wonder the FBI would have explored
whether McCoy was in fact Cooper. I found McCoy's flash resemblance to early Cooper sketches uncanny.

Looking further, watching McCoy being lead away
by agents. McCoy seems to lack the physical
stature attributed to Cooper. McCoy seems smaller somehow. Shorter? But the facial resemblence at
a quick glance is to my mind uncanny and strong.
I have told myself I am imaging this, but it has
left a strong impression with me for some reason.

We know that McCoys' enduring weakness which lead to his demise was his mouth and his ego. In fact, McCoy told a friend of his that he 'could have done' the Cooper hyjacking. McCoy was bragging about his
skills and his intentions. Then mere weeks later McCoy in fact does his own hyjacking employing nearly the same methods Cooper used. (Its no wonder McCoy was caught and the FBI would wonder
if McCoy was also Cooper).

Now what enteres my mind to ask is: who were McCoy's friends who might have been similarly capable of doing a hyjacking by the same means,
and prior to McCoy talking about hyjacking with his one friend who else did McCoy discuss hyjacking
with ... prior to Nov 1971? Do hyjackers by parachute travel in a similar (small) group, and could one of
McCoy's personal friends have been Dan Cooper?
Is there any evidence at all that McCoy or any of his close associates, for example, ever knew about or read the Dan Cooper comic book, over seas?

We know McCoy had contacts in the 'educated'
community, universities (which may fit the Raleigh
and Bourbon profile Carr mentions in the Nat Geo special). Did McCoy have emulators who he might have discussed his plans and intentions with
who known to McCoy then beat him to the punch
and hyjacked first! If the Mormon Community
where McCoiy spent time had something or someone to hide who went missing (on a mission)
would the Mormons be capable of concealing the fact?

There is a deep resonance in Richard McCoy, for me.
McCoy may not have been Cooper but it could easily be someone McCoy knew or who knew him, a soul mate with a similar but quiet disposition.

I liked the NatGeo film.

G.

Jo I don't know what you are getting at here? Are you implying that you can learn to jump off of youtube, popular mechanics or playboy? The history of parachuting has been written in the blood of the pioneers who were self taught and or experimenting with new idea's and methods. Even Jesus refused to base jump without proper training http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temptation_of_Christ - I doubt Cooper was a first time untrained jumper who got lucky and survived a night jump with no reserve from a jet.
Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Jo is claiming Duane Weber who had links to the

Do you see the resemblance?

Jesus. JFK. and Duane Weber.

In other words, you are so desperate that you will look for anything at all that might somehow have a tenuous connection to a connection to another connection to someone who once lived somewhere in the US sometime in the 20th century?

If you want out the box, how about Cooper was an alien? Explains why he disappeared without trace and certainly sounds more reasonable than some of the theories we have heard...

What do you think about Georger's musings that Cooper and McCoy might have known each other?

I didnt share Georger's opinion of the National Geo show on Cooper or Toms performance in the show, but I am too immersed in the Cooper forum madness to have an impartial view.

McCoy was a skydiver and a pilot and used those skills in his successful 727 hijack jump. It doesnt prove that Cooper shared those skills but it does show that those skills helped.

If McCoy knew Cooper would he have made any remarks about the caper at all? Wasnt it a remark about how much ransom Cooper should have asked for ($500,000) that became McCoys undoing?

377 asked about georger's comments on the show.

Well I guess he made sense.

But my general opinion is that no one has any information to say anything reasonable about who Cooper might have been. It's biased more by who the observer is, rather than any evidence about Cooper. Because there isn't anything to brainstorm about.

Any random statement is as good as any else.

So there's no way to critique anything.

A day later after posting I feel the same, and more.

Looking at McCoy is literally like looking into the
face of the everything that hyjacks airplanes - the
fully developed symptomology personified in the living flesh. And Cooper and McCoy shared much in common, at least psychologically. They had to have. Something tangible links them. You see one and
you are seeing the other also. The only question is how far the linkage goes and how tangible.

I watched McCoy walking with the agents, turning
his head sharply at one point to flash a look at something (as if it was he in control!). One brazen
son-of-a-bitch I would not wish to tangle with in his
jungle of tormented rationalisations. That is how it looked to me, and I would not be a bit surprised to
find out Cooper was just like him just below the
surface of a mild demeanor. (I am now saying things again I said when I first arrived in this forum).
Watching McCoy stirred it for me all over again -

I thinks Carr's sentiments about McCoy are spot-on
and I think he was saying that here (in a polite
form).

McCoy and Cooper definately shared conviction.
In what places to do find such convictions ready to
actually plan and act on their impulses. ?

Carr seems to be believe (or used to believe) that
Cooper's act may have been rather spontaneous.
I wonder how Carr would compare McCoy and Cooper
inb terms of planning, and time spent planning their
hyjackings? A deeper analysis might show the time scales were similar (or had to be similar).

I'm just thinking and writing it out -

A. 2 weeks

The FBI dropped the ball since Duane was named a suspect - I guess they had too many bank robbers and murderers or worse to chase. There is NO time line - after all the FBI had this for 13 yrs...and our information will be revealed when we have written verification of the information that has been provided.

I will rule out C,D and E. But A and B might be pushing this a little. This is something WE did NOT expect to find and not the additional information we were looking for...but, better. Even though it is conclusive to me - I can hear the FBI now -"You have to put him on the plane"...nothing we present is ever going to result in the FBI admitting they screwed up with Weber.

This infomation spells cover-up because this is something I did point on just like a bird dog in 1997 in my conversations with Ralph Hope and subsequent agents. It is something I have investigated long and hard myself, but with limited resources to do so. I was puzzled by the source and skeptical until one of the guys explained his why and how.

I AM NOT intentionally teasing you and this is NOT meant as a tease. It was just a bolt of lighting right out of the storm we were already in...if you thought you had the key to solve a 38 yr old case - would you tell in in a thread? No you wouldn't!. You would do what we are doing - verifying and trying to figure out what to do with the infomation and who you confront and where you go with it.

My Question: WHO is to blame for this information being missed or was it deliberate and is the information verifiable?

on the FBI at Virginia Beach, the same place Jo & Duane Weber would move to just several years later, where Duane Weber presumably became interested in McCoy and the Cooper story (Jo claims she and Duane knew nothing of McCoy or Cooper at Virginia Beach)![

=======================

:(>:(When we moved to Va. Bch. was in 1983 several yrs after he took me to WA in 1979 and told and showed me what he did. Our moving to VA is not when or why Duane became interested in McCoy or the Cooper Story. I would appreciate it if you would keep yours statements regarding this factual rather than adding to the myths and if you would please refrain from making COY statements about Weber unless you verify the facts.

This is the kind of thing that contributes to the myths of the future.

There is one thing for sure The man that jumped that terrible nite is dead. No one Know's Who he was. One thing for sure is that it is, Know one that has been Identified by any Proffesor or Author or Family member to include the FBI, Or any one else. Food for thought DNA has already proved who it wasn't . So has a long investagation. Jerry

I don't think you know McCoy at all.

Remember everything about how deeply his wife was involved (it came out in later court case regarding the book. She was never charged though).

I think you're creating a mythology that isn't just right.

Now it's fair to say there's this weird thing between Vietnam, helicopter pilot, novice sport jumper, national guard, husband, mormon, and a guy who can then escape from prison etc.
(not to mention he was going to BYU to be law enforcement)

Even the circumstances of what happened on the prison escape are muddied.

Who knows what McCoy was really like? No one.

He could fly a damn helicopter in Vietnam though.

(edit) I don't know why Georger is saying Carr was spot-on about McCoy. Carr used McCoy as an example of how an expert jumper would do it. McCoy was a novice jumper. Now if you want to say McCoy was an example of how a novice jumper would do it...okay.

There was a guy named Duane Weber who confessed on his deathbed though.

He sold insurance and did some crime with his wife.

She covered it up and posts to a forum on the internet giving relationship advice. For free.

(edit) Duane apparently buried most of the money inside his dead dog.

But my general opinion is that no one has any information to say anything reasonable about who Cooper might have been. It's biased more by who the observer is, rather than any evidence about Cooper.

Now you know that is not true.

Which "observer" would you pick to do your heart surgery ... or as your guide on a fishing expedition?

bad examples. Both of those have stuff to observe and study.
My point is there's nothing to study.
Any damn opinion off the street is just as good.

If good fishing was random, I could take you anywhere and be just as good as any fishing guide.

Same with heart surgery. If there was nothing to study, and success was just luck, I'd cut you open and be just as good.
