I had packed my Papillion myself( my instructor had us packing from the very first jump) It was a streamer..high speed... I did the whole Belly wart sequence and I chopped it so fast with the capewells that I got my kicker plate from my reserve 28' C-9 back...it was in the mainMy second chop was on a static line jump from a huey...it was a military demo water jump from 1250' It came out...was a spinning piece of shit Mae West... and it was not by the book... but no way I was gonna toss the reserve into the direction of spin. I figured it was time for that crap to go away.....kinda pissed off the first shirt and that got to the Squadron commander...but hey.. I swam away with no injuries( I was open at about 300'.. when we got back to base.. like I said.. I had a little chat with the rigger who packed it for me. Snow..its about dealing with the situation...simple enough. That said.. people who panic or freeze in situations beyond the norm... skydiving may not be a good sport for them. What about my question about whether newbies sometimes cutaway when they should have done something else? Looking back, it sounds like you really had to do that cutaway? Oh there was no doubt.. that if I did not chop I was going to die.. a streamer under a round stands you up.... and its FAST. There are actually quite a few students who cut things away they really do not need to.. many times its just over amped nerves.. and not really sure of what is normal at that point with low jump numbers.... BUT.. I will say this to anyone who did that.. it was their decision. If they dont think they can land the stuff that is up over their heads... and went to the reserve instead.. then it was the right decision for them when they land it and walk away. Mainly I dont want to train students or get instructional ratings because its just too much like work. I go to the DZ to blow off stress and have fun. There are good instructors out there that do it every week and are in practice. I am not in practice for teaching and other people need the money much more than I do. Plus.. if I was teaching.. then I am responsible for others . To me that just takes the fun out of my weekend. I will jump wiht them.. do video... whatever.. that I dont mind if I am not doing something else... and once they are off student status I am more than willing to go do 2 ways or 3 ways... and pay it forward and help them learn to fly their bodies. snowmman 3 #15520 January 9, 2010 Here's two things that's funny about our pretense at airplane security 1) We spend all this money on creating a secure environment, and then we serve alcohol to passengers. And if they get drunk, we may have to deploy F-16s http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,582632,00.html 2) That a passenger can lock himself in the bathroom. It seems like a no-brainer around security, that you should have cameras in the bathroom, feeding up into the cockpit, and there should be a lock override that opens the door from the outside. Basically, the only way to have security is for the passengers to have no rights. They have to be treated like baggage with very restricted freedoms. Arguably they should be handcuffed to their seats. I think someone patented such an idea. (hand restraints built into airplane seats for security) (edit) interesting nasa report related to this here: http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/publications/directline/dl9_pax.htm Reports in the media and popular films frequently leave the impression that the main safety threats to commercial air carrier operations involve bombs, terrorist hijackings, and hazardous cargo. However, reports received by Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) belie some of these notions. Pilot and flight attendant reports to the ASRS indicate that passengers themselves are an unexpected source of many inflight safety problems, ranging from the merely annoying, to those that pose serious interference with crew duties and a potential risk to aircraft structural integrity. ASRS data is not the only indicator of a serious and growing problem with passenger inflight incidents. A recent issue of a major air carrier's employee publication noted an almost 200% increase between 1994 and 1995 in reports filed with the company by flight attendants describing interference from passengers. The interference included assaulting, threatening, or intimidating crew members performing their inflight duties. During this same period, the number of physical assaults experienced by flight attendants at this carrier increased threefold. Passenger-related incidents form only a tiny fraction of ASRS database holdings. A recent review of 73 database reports referencing inflight security problems revealed that passengers - drunken, obstreperous, or dangerously uninformed - constituted 23 percent of the reports submitted, equaling the number of incidents involving hazardous materials carried in the cargo hold. Passengers carrying guns, with and without the necessity to be armed, accounted for another 12 percent of these 73 reports. In general, the ASRS passenger-induced safety hazards fell into the following categories: Alcohol or drug-related violence; Uncooperative or unstable behavior; Carriage of hazardous materials and devices on board. You know you can change the setting on how the pages appear on your computer - it is all in the settings. Different settings will result in different page numbers. Now - talk about Cooper and myths. Before I told you guys that individuals in this forum misquided and create myths. Sluggo posted an address and contact number for a Greg Larson who was supposedly the husband of Tina Mucklow. This was to the best of my knowledge not his research material. I will let you guys figure out how Jo might know this. I will also tell you that they divorced in 1977. You are right Jo didn't acquire this information on her own - but how did she do it???????? As for the "new" info that got me going in the last couple of days - it fizzled when we found the Real Larson. There are others out there who have claimed information on this Larson...but they are dead wrong. They look for Larson to locate Tina - but it doesn't work. They then pass their erroneous information on to others and before you know it - it has become another Cooper myth. Grey nor Cook had Tina in the right location..one has located her, but if unscrupulous means are used to talk to her - he is in trouble. Someone stated Tina had an"Obligation" to come forward and explain to the public about Nov. 24, 1971. I do NOT agee with this. She owes no one anything. Her life has been altered by the incident in 1971. She was only 22 yrs old - and that incident forever changed that young woman's life. What could she possibly add after 38 yrs? As much as I need to talk to her and to show her something I have - I would never show up on her door. If she gave Cooper something or if Cooper took something off of that airplane besides the items he had - would she feel obligated to reveal what it was - I don't know and only she can answer that. I hope she realizes that any item Cooper took or was given to him - could identify Cooper even though she might not recognize his picture after all of these yrs. Yes, Georger - my sweet baboon, I caught your litte hint - Sven or seven? Do you think I did not notice? How would you know about that? Too bad you do not use PM's and I would not be disclosing our little secret in public. You have my phone number - call me and maybe we will exchange goats.Copyright 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 2013, 2014, 2015 by Jo Weber
