I read in Petey's work that he had graduated from Kirkland High School, which is now known as Lake Washignton HS in Kirkland, WA, and also, this is where Petey says he taught English and Journalism.

LWHS confirmed this week that a Sheridan Peterson taught English and Journalism there from 1962 until 1965. However, they only have a record of a P. Peterson in the KHS Class of 1943, when Petey would have been 18, as he says he was born May 2, 1925.

Things are not adding up. Where is Wagner High School?

Also from the article Home Coming http://www.smartvoter.org/2006/11/07/ca/sn/vote/peterson_s/paper3.html.
"At sixteen, he and Bill Wright joined the Marines. After St. Vincent's, Marine Boot Camp was a cake walk. He was well prepared for the Marine Corps' brutality. Sheridan returned from the Pacific in 1946, and by 1947 had his Healdsburg High School diploma."

Georger,
Your thoughts on the photos? Ears?
377

See the attached -

The Cooper sketches show a different amount of
mass in Cooper's earlobes vs. the candidates
shown. This difference in mass and geometry or
shape, extends from the mid portion of the ear
down through the lobe. I attached an anatomical
chart of the ear.

You be the judge.

It all comes back to how accurate the sketch was. I have no way of knowing how accurate the FBI sketch is. Nobody but Cooper really knows.

In my years of experience in criminal law I saw a lot of composite sketches that turned out to be very inaccurate represntations of the person who was later proven to have committed the crime. Sometimes several close eye witnesses validated the sketch and said it looked just like the perpetrator. They were wrong.

This case is far too stale to ever be solved by a witness ID of a Cooper suspect. We need some hot twenties, DNA or something tangile and non subjective. I still think the FBI is (wisely) holding back some material info that could help them discriminate between a poser and the real Cooper.

Thought ya'll might like this little snippet from the Oregonian, July 1957:

"WRITER with family wants caretaker job in remote area. Sheridan Peterson, 39 Ravaill (sp?) St., Missoula, Mont."

No flames, but the first thing that came to my mind was Steven King's Shining...lol.

Cooper or not, no doubt that Sheridan Peterson has led a fascinating life. His life plus history of his family (his parents, grandfather - ratification of the 21st amendment was one high point for those of us who enjoy the occasional spirits - go, Granpa, go), great grandfather and back would make a good read for those interested in regional and family histories.
Who knows...maybe he might be interested in using some of the talent in this forum to co-author such a work??

*Grins* I've sometimes half-way speculated that he has posted here under a name other than eagleeye to keep interest up. Half-assed speculation being what it is, who knows? Apart from some of the jumpers and a few of the whuffos (is a non-jumper allowed to use that word) who have met in person..who really knows who anyone is anyway? Or maybe you all meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Elks Lodge. **Grins again**
Whatever the case, from his various posts all over the net, he doesn't seem to shy away from being a Cooper suspect.

Good work as usual Georger. Can you do the eyes?

Yeah to what 377 says, but since the composite is all there is to work with for now.........Like DW's nose, Peterson's eyes are pretty distinctive, with the outer downward slope, but the only composite that they resemble, to me is pic B.

Even a whuffo can use the word whuffo, no protocol breach there. Just don't call a jumper a whuffo and you will be fine.

Maybe we can get Jack Nicholson to play DBC in the next movie. That 1959 ad sure does have a Shining aura to it. Missoula is where Sheridan received his smoke jumper training.

He likes being an FBI CLEARED Cooper suspect with lingering doubts among jumpers about the validity of the FBI's conclusion. No jail risk and lots of fame. Any skydiver would like being a DBC suspect. I wont lie, I and many other jumpers were disappointed when we failed to draw FBI attention as a DBC suspect. It might still get Sheridan noticed by women, which is what skydiving is all about for guys who are honest about their motives.;)

I have a feeling that come November.... quite a few of the usual suspects will be at the Shindig at the Ariel Bar for the 40th.

Hi Amazon!

Hey, a 12 foot estimated 850 lb sturgeon was caught and released last week in SF bay.

Locals swear they have seen 1200 lb fish jump. I've seen quite a few 7 footers take to the air near the Carquinez Straits.

Ocean salmon season off to a slow start, mostly small fish. They should have kept it closed one more year to allow the stocks to further recover.

So what are your thoughts about Peterson? I cant say if he was DBC but he sure was qualified in every area needed to do the jump. it is tantalizing to think that he might have been planning it for years. Bob's (a Boeing engineer) report of Sheridan's query about 727 stair operation in the early sixties is intriguing.

I need to go down and have a chat with Mike at Toledo and see if we can't put together some interesting jumps there this fall to wow the crowds:)
There is a sweet little park just down the road from the Ariel Store and Tavern at Merwin Dam that has plenty of room to land in.

I have seen some monsters on the Columbia River over the many years. Yes they do jump.. and its amazibng to watch the eyes of people I have taken fishing...."we are fishing for THOOOOOOOSE"

Samming season is a long way off.....but August in the River.. is always good... if you know how to fish the estuary.

And that interests me a lot. It shows (I think) that
agents were not sticking strictly to the physical
profile but looking at all kinds of people ... not like
tv! (our guy has one ear, missing right arm, and a
peace symbol carved in his forehead with a Bowie
knife ... drives a Pink Austin)!

The FBI, which means agents, were looking at all
kinds of poeple, but what's the common denominator
(s)? Im willoing to bet if you got 50 agents in a
room they couldnt come to a common explanation?
So did they not believe in the profile and sketches?
What is going on?

So like Smokin I stick to the sketches - what else
is there that is concrete? Food service worker? Nasty
vile guy? Hitler's doppleganger?

Yeah, I gave it away with those links on the photo tags.

Georger,

Is this a photo of Sheridan? Maybe someone knows
who this is ...

Let me work something up here to illustrate what
I will say.

That is a chair attached to a bunch of Balloons.

NOT one witness has ever claimed Cooper was balding - the shading on the composite represents a slanted forehead and not a receding hair line.

I believe we had the man in the chair posted on this thread before.

P.S. Georger:

Maybe you need to redo the little girls ears with your new soft ware.

Also redo Duane's ears and remember the photo you are using Weber has a prison hair cut - very close. Put sideburns on and fill out the hair line and you have a Cooper that is as close as anything else you can come up with. Have all the fun you want because it will soon come to an end.

Strange you never made ONE comment about John (Duane's brother) and Tosaw knowing each other. Why is that? How large was Modesto in the 60's?
How meny Clubs existed?
How man Churches existed?
Where is Arcadia?

This picture was on the front of Young Men and Fire by Norman Maclean, but they do NOT ID the photos - when, where or who.

Can anyone ID any of these guys? Could one of them be Sheridan. I do NOT believe that this is a picture of the jumpers who died in Mann Gulch, but just a picture of Smokejumpers. The back of the book states "Cover Photograph: A Smokejumper crew before practice jump, Missoula, Montana July 8, 1949. courtesy USDA Forest Service.

I am going to contact the Smokejumper Magazine and see if they can ID these guys - there are lots of possible "Coopers" in this photo. NO, Weber is NOT one of them...but is Sheridan? Seems to be around his time in Missoula.

The subject of Smokejumpers is gaining some momentum and appears to be gobbling up some lore at the same time. How unique for this thread.

Those individuals killed in Mann Gulch were an exceptional microcosm of the American population to say the least. None of them were ne’er do well ‘Barflys’ or individuals that were casually selected. Many were veterans from WWII and nine of them were college graduates or college students with several studying forestry. These guys all appear to have had the ‘Right Stuff’.

History is typically recorded in a binary fashion with dates and a couple names along with the general cause. I suppose this is already too much for most to digest and future versions will be even more condensed. After all, how many are guilty of crying the question “What does this have to do with (fill in the blank)?” Don’t wait for the translation, just answer… Yes or No!

So there was this group of people that were called to rid the planet of NAZIs and they succeeded on 8 May 1945. The end.

Just kidding, but that is how it has been treated historically. After years of grinding training and practice the entire system was expected to go back to working at the Piggly Wiggly or selling insurance in a single step. Delusional to say the least.

There were a couple programs that had unintentionally served as a transition back to civil life. The first program was the 52-20 Club, where all veterans were given $20 per week, for 52 weeks while they looked for civilian employment. Of the veterans who I have spoken with who enrolled in the 52-20, all of them said they took exactly 52 weeks to find a job or select a college. My kinda guys.

Many said they took advantage of the leather flight gear and ‘Crusher’ hats and used them along with newly purchased motorcycles to ride formation across the country they just got through defending, while trying to relate to people who worried about neighbor’s lawns being too long. At least they were able to socialize with like minded for a brief time.

The second program was the GI Bill where veterans could attend college. This was another good exercise for the brain and left three months available to work during what is now called summer vacation (what are we evolving into?) at tasks which included Smoke Jumping.

It was after this lengthy process that many veterans were able to assimilate into the bland, repetitive slow death that most of us like to portray as dangerous and exciting vocations which include software migration management and extruded polymer sales. Pullleeeeassse.

Farflung, I think you're the only one on here that might really need the little copyright thingy. :D. You really do make me LOL and reflect.

Oh my Gawd....do you know my neighbor?? When we first moved into our home years ago the first thing our neighbor told us was how well that the previous owner had kept up his lawn....before including his expectations that we would continue this time honored tradition. Boy did his hopes get crushed. I mean it's presentable, but if given a choice between cutting grass and going to the lake for a picnic, gotta tell you the grass is gonna grow for a few more days.

You can be my neighbor anytime 99. Tolerance for imperfect turf is a good fit. Liking big antennas is another plus.

Once a neighbor asked if I was "having trouble" with my lawn. Yeah, I said. Watering it, fertilizing it and mowing it is a lot of trouble and my Dad told me to stay away from trouble.

Another neighbor fretting about about my awesome new rotary radio antenna, which looks a bit like those things in the Jody Foster movie Contact. It was designed and built by Snowmman himself. The neighbor asked hopefully: "is that thing temporary?". Yeah, I said, it's only there until the really big one gets finished.

Welcome to my hood.

The book writer only referred to 'Barflys' in reference to when they needed more people on the firelines (on the ground) and the forestry had no one to spare. His statement was NOT in reference to the jumpers (I hope no one took it that way).

Most of these were well motivated and intelligent young men working on their education, but the writer mentions the exception - some were there only to make enough money to spend 3 months in Hawaii so evidently the pay rate for smokejumpers was pretty good.

One of the survivors was a young man by the name of Walter Rumsey along with Sallee. Maclean found both of them in 1978 and was able to get them to go back to Mann Gulch with him. This is the current chapter I am on now.

Haven't been feeling to good and I seem to fall asleep when ever I try to read lately. This is a compelling book - about Smokejumpers. I used to be able to read a book in 4 hours - now I suffer from AADS - just another word for Early Old Timers.
Naahhh! Maclean has been my bed companion for a about 3 wks...but, I keep falling asleep.
When I wake up the light is on and there lies Maclean right next to me. :o

Oh, Well! So it's only a book!

I know Georger will find this article interesting.

This system was operating at McChord AFB and should have made it a piece of cake for the scrambled F 106s to intercept the NWA 727.

How humiliating to have a C 130 Herc make the catch and the F 106s miss it.

What would the Master Neighborhood look like?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUzs5dlLrm0

Yes indeed, the weekend Squire (read 377) comes out to mow the lawn. Sound like paradise.

Rows of houses that are all the same, and no one seems to care. From Mickey’s lips to the HOAs ears.

See Mrs. Grey (code for smokin99) is proud today because she’s lounging at the lake.

Happy now smokin99, enjoy your leisure activities while leaving the rest of your subdivision behind to suffer glancing at your overdeveloped dichondra?

Well you both better get in step and learn to follow the ‘Unwritten Rules’ so generously passed to you via passive aggressive and well rehearsed speech structure. Try to imagine being great for a change. Join in and be part of one HOA, one approved color of beige and the same tastefully elegant height of lawn.

If you keep this up Farflung I'll have to buy another refrigerator. This last poster has used up the remaining real eatate on the exterior of my thirty three year old Frigidaire.

I never thought of the lawn police as Turf Nazis, but now I do and I am getting pissed.

Who are they to say that green is superior to brown?

The solution is coming, dandelion season, weeds galore and they will spread their little paratrooper seeds far and wide with the spring winds.

They can have my antenna when they pry it out of my cold dead hands.
