If the quote was legit from Rataczak, maybe he used MPH instead of knots, thinking the reporter/readers of article would understand better that way.

Attached, stall speed/stick shaker charts for Boeing 727. Do I know what it means? No. :$

Just guessing, but it looks like the 727 has a pretty low stall speed.

Rataczak would not call an airspeed MPH if it was actually Knots. Since MPH is 1.15 times higher than Knots, that would be a significant difference. If Rataczak meant 170 Knots, but wanted to put it in MPH, he would say something like "about 190 MPH to 200 MPH". Or he could do the actual and mentally easy calculation and say "195 MPH". And you must remember that Knots is an International Convention mandated system for commercial aircraft airspeeds.

Blevin Stated:
I don't care who you directed your post to, because you didn't specify a name.

Quote

YES, I did qualify the question and it was NOT to U.

Blevins Stated:
If you can't specify a bit on these *alleged* witnesses, then I have to assume your statement is not true.

Quote

See what I mean U don't leave anyone alone - I didn't ask U. I do not need the opinion of a writer whose genre is science fiction.

I do NOT take seniors and make fools out of them - U want me to name my witnesses - Well, all of them were interviewed by the FBI and that IS ALL U need!

Blevins stated:
Not as in 'are they qualified,' but meaning that without some other information about the witness (when/how/where/what they witnessed), then it means nothing. When I name a witness, I give their name.

Quote

I understand EXACTLY what you mean. Disrupt the lives of seniors for Profit! The FBI knows who they are and there is NO need to say anything else! They all came forward after the Skyjacking and these individuals found ME from the article Margie Boule did in 2001. They all contacted the FBI in 1971. All contacted Jo Weber in 2001 after they became aware of my story.

The FBI interviewed all of them back in 1971. One didn't understand the FBI not having a note pad and taking notes. The FBI's answer to this - was they do their notes in their car - as they do NOT want to intimidate the individuals. I DO NOT BUY THAT! Not how it would be done today!

I have qualified these witness and what I have said above has been posted in this thread before. The FBI was notified I had been contacted by the witnesses, but they were NOT witnesses to the crime and they cannot identify Cooper !

Robert99 - you are supposedly a pilot right? If the flap where change at a low attitude would the individuals on the ground note a sound - as being different than normally what they had experience on the ground?

Jo, Despite any stories you hear to the contrary, the airliner ALWAYS told the ATC people that they were level at 10,000 feet while they were in the Portland area. They were well north of the Mayfield Intersection on V23 when they first reached 10,000 feet.

The three turbine engines would be putting out far to much noise to permit ANYONE on the ground to determine variations in the aerodynamic noise about the airframe caused by changing the position of the flaps or leading edge devices.

The short answer to your question is "No".

727 power reductions, flap position changes, gear extension... all can be heard under the right conditions but none sound "like a plane in trouble".

F106 interceptors were very loud single engine (J75-17) turbojet aircraft. If they were heard circling or making power changes they'd sound different than a 727 and might be more likely to have been noticed. I believe that the Cooper 727 had JT8D-7 turbofan engines which have a higher bypass ratio than turbojets and sound less "harsh".

Someone hearing an F106 and thinking the sound was coming from an airliner might think it sounded "wrong" and conclude that the unseen aircraft was "in trouble".

377

The reason I brought up the Rataczak quote earlier was because if he really did get the 727's speed down below 170MPH, as he claims in the article, this might increase the chances of survival for the hijacker.

I thought I heard that the plane was going about 195 MPH when Cooper jumped. What if it was more like 160, maybe even 150? The article is quite definite about Rataczak quoting MPH, not KIAS. I understand there are differences between KIAS, true airspeed, ground speed, etc. I suppose the base reference might be whichever of those relates most to how the parachute he used was rated in terms of a safe speed to jump.

Blevins, Let me repeat once again. You need to read the radio transcripts of the chatter between the airliner and Seattle ATC. The reason for the initial slowing of the aircraft was to help Cooper get the stairs down. After that happened, the airliner climbed on up to 10,000 feet and cruised at 170 Knots Indicated Airspeed (what the pilots saw on their airspeed indicator) for the rest of the flight to Reno. So the aircraft had a speed of 195 Knots True Airspeed (or 225 MPH) at 10,000 feet level while passing through the Portland area.

The 170 KIAS speed was specified by the NWA aircraft performance people in Minneapolis as being the speed for maximum range with the flap setting, landing gear down, and rear stairs popped, as specified by Cooper. This had nothing to do with the jump itself but was mandated by the configuration Cooper wanted.

Or the "infamous RobertMBlevins KC fable" - eh?

Can we look forward to a sequester of your throwing
barbs and mindless accusations at innocent people.
whose story you are simply jealous of, know nothing
about, and can only whine about in envy?

Give it up Blevins - you are out of their league!

That is the hub of the problem. Reading vs
understanding. Its no criticism, until somebody starts
acting/writing like he does understand technical terms.

Isn't there a common denominator in moral
equivalency here we could resort to: 1 knot equals
3 hens on a bush? 1 mph equals a guy with a royal
flush? 175 knots equals 'I swam the Puget Sound" ?
Now, if we apply this conversion and interpret the
Cooperphelia in 'moral equivalency' ... only one party
can be right! There it is. That proves Janet was a liar!

See how simple this is when the right ruler is applied?

When the ruler has thumbscrews and the rack, and
that steely helmet thing that slams down with blood
spikes into your brain .... just to cleans impure
thoughts away! Works every time!

Thank YOU for the concise answer I was looking for. I knew U where the 1 to address on this.

The media may have been told 10,000 ft by ATC, but the co-pilot has stated to others and media - they did drop the altitude at one point. Remember he was able to make some decision himself - that is the way it HAD to be.

I do NOT understand the darn maps so I do NOT understand where the Mayfield Intersection V23 was. Could U please help me in dumb ole lady language and just give the towns or something beside those flight maps. Sluggo nor others have been able to help me on this. I have worked in the blind except for the sitings.

A woman in Cougar sent me a really great map - that is what I am using. (ONE I CAN ACTUALLY READ). She pin pointed some of the sitings - now I have to fill in the rest. Other pinpoints are specific places Duane took me to in 1979. Would you believe I have not ever actually did this before!

It was not important until I made the 2010 trip and spent 15 days in WA. The time and space factor was what was throwing me. Wish I had made that trip on my own before 2010, but until 2007 I had a very sick husband to care for and then - I had to get up enough nerve to venture on a plane, get a rental car and drive in terrain I was unfamilar with, but I DID IT! Those who know me know I do not stray out of my comfort zone - a very private loner...outside of my work.

Your statement below was the best anyone ever gave me and one that I could actually understand!

This is beginning to sound like the infamous Janet Fable.

I think everyone should see the source of what you support. You can't have it both ways. You can't knock on me about questioning the Janet Story and then say you don't believe it, either.

You said nothing about "questioning". You said "the
infamous Janet FABLE". You labled it: "This is begin-
ning to sound like the infamous Janet Fable.".

No confusion here. You label things ... you actually
know nothing about. Then you take your labels and
apply them as truth. That is your method.

In reality of course you actually know literally nothing
about Janet, what she saw, if she saw, her husband
who also saw or did not see, what was seen, the circle
of people Janet and her family connected with, how
the story got out, who investigated or did not invest-
igate, who the 'black suits' at her door were, etc etc
etc. So, knowing nothing literally you literally use one
newspaper article and then LABEL JANET!

I and others tried years ago to convey some
information to this group about this matter - you
would not allow it! Now you ask: "I think everyone
should see the source of what you support."

Are you now ready to allow it, or shall we wait another
three years?

Or, you could just save yourself and others the wear
and tear and just go back and READ THE THREAD -

Let's just do your moral equivalency test and ask:
"Is Janet and her God fearing family as credible and
morally upright, as you are" ? Or are they, what did
you call it? "Wage earner sheeple", to be dispensed
with due to Moral Inferiority?

Americans wanna know! (your words)

My feeling is this story will remain in gridlock for some
time to come, until the sequester has played out, or
Geoff Gray gets there first! Isnt that a kicker!:D

Jo, Mayfield Intersection (now known as Malay Intersection) is very close to the town of Toledo. You should be able to find that on just about any map.

OK! now tell me this how much time on those damn transcripts lapsed after that initial slowing of the aircraft to get the steps down and the time they felt the bump?

This is one of the last things I have to get straight in my mind and I have to mentally put myself there with the map. I know the location I was told about the sounds and the other 2 locations (none of these sitings have anything to do with anything this thread has talked about). Maybe it will not pin point down like I expect it to - but, I am bound and determined to find the location of that damn tower that was there in 1971 and was not there 1979.

If I am right - then it will narrow down property records searches or names and land that had a tower in 71 and was gone in 79 and then developed prior to 2010. Lots of ground to cover - but, I am NOT sure what I am looking for - it is just something I have to do and this is my last chance. It is something I am driven to find.

I find that and I can tell you where Cooper landed! He told me about the rails and you could see the tower from a long ways away - he was pointing to the N.W if I have my bearings on the rest of it right.

I have never felt this close to finding closure since I started other than my trip in 2010. I don't know what you said, but you tripped a memory cord!

Perhaps it was the brief pause we had from Blevins, but you were trying to get a point across to Blevins about something - the words you used just exploded in my mind. I finally GOT IT! Damn Dumb Blonde in me!

The aircraft slowed down and the steps were partially lowered when the aircraft was about 20 nautical miles south of the Seattle airport and well north of the Mayfield Intersection near Toledo. This happened about 30 minutes (and about 100 miles) before the pressure bump and presumed jump.

I know this was discussed a while ago, but the upcoming "Skyjack" movie (Gray's book) will be a comedy.

I'm thinking it being a comedy is probably a good thing. If it were done as a drama, people start thinking it's a documentary and a true story.

I go back to the movie JFK. Over two thirds of the US believe that was a conspiracy because of that movie. Never mind that it was not one conspiracy theory, but several woven together, with characters, facts and events added. Even critic Roger Ebert believes it was a conspiracy based on that movie. I'm not saying you can't believe it was a conspiracy, but if you base it on that movie -- you've been tricked.

People treat movies as their basis of belief. That's the reason the Washington Post editorial board wrote a review of the movie Fair Game (the Valerie Plame story) blasting it for changing the facts even going so far as implying the White House leaked her identity and not revealing until the closing credits it had not.

So, I'm thinking having the DB Cooper as a comedy will not have the viewers thinking it's the true story.

Sorry to bring that back up. I just watched Argo tonight and happened to read how much of that was changed for the movie.

This idea was popular long before the film. Oliver Stone. A no BS kind of guy, generally. He pegged the Vietnam War and The Doors pretty well.
Why wouldn't he get it right on Kennedy? :)
You never know.

There was an announcement about this Cooper film. But the announcement, done some time ago, is the only thing visible to date on such a film. I have seen no production schedule, no script, no filming location, no updates in Variety. And it's been more than a year.

A Great Truth about Film Rights: Sometimes they just buy the rights simply to hold the rights to a particular book. Actually creating the film is another matter entirely. Financing for same is the biggest consideration here.

Don't get me wrong. If they actually do the film, I would be first in line with the extra-large Diet Pepsi and the oversize popcorn bucket.

Can't say I've met him. I have met Merilee Rush, some of the Wailers, and others involved in what they once called the Northwest Sound. Bass, sometimes rhythm when they turned me loose with my Gibson SG. I was the young kid on the block, though.

After some shows, I would wake up the next morning in a strange place and wonder who that woman was next to me. I was always polite, though. :)
Even if I didn't know her, I would give her a kiss anyway.

OK. Robt Ballard is not a rock band. Robt Ballard

That's a thoughtful and articulate answer Airtwardo. I think you nailed it.

We jumpers divert BS and drama, like a turbo wastegate diverts excess exhaust gas. We don't let it spin us up past redline.

Those who roll without this feature can over-boost and detonate. We see a lot of that here. ;)

God Willing and the Creek doesn't rise - referring to my health, I will be on a flight to WA in the near future!

Got a decent nights sleep and started to work with the maps I have. Now need a more detailed map of a specific area - that is not heavily populated, but do NOT want to reveal the area in the thread. I need OLD detailed maps of that area. I think I found where the towers used to be. Something was triggered in my memory bank last night - probably an unrelated thing - BUT, all of sudden a light came on.

I mentioned this area before and all I got was young folks who biked and raced 4 wheels in that area. NOW I need OLD maps and I know I have found the area the towers used to be in.

Need map pre 1971. Black and White and don't tell me to go to this place or that place and order the maps - not enough time and I have ordered maps and they are never what I expected.

I will not talk about this on this thread - only to physical researcher and older people who will understand and remember what I saw! Have had to take a pill to calm me down - after what I found drinking my coffee. Making this post and then try to re-start my morning so I can make it to the grocery. Can't go one more day with a trip to the grocery.

Why do you and 377 continue to 'poke the dog' and
incite people?

Got anything on the Cooper case, for a change?

You keep 'talking' about 'responsibility for actions';
and I for one have yet to see you or 377 define just
what "actions" and "responsibilities" you are talking
about!

Maybe there would be more "glory" in this for you and
377 if you hatched something concrete for a change
beyond: "he backed down the stairs" ?

Something concrete like: "He walked up the stairs to
get into the plane" ?

Or, "Tests show the Cooper money was only exposed
to the atmosphere for three weeks between 11-24-71
and 2-11-1980" ?

Or, "Tosaw and his salvage consultants identified only
five places where Cooper and his loot could have been
tied up on the bottom, between mile markers BBB and
ZZZ, which means Cooper loot might have had to
enter the Columbia to arrive at Tina Bar between mile
markers 666 and 999 ..." ?
