It was an educated guess given Fred Catalano's proclivities toward rabble rousing. He'd have been on the FBI's radar being that he was a leader within the American Nazi Party around that time. However, you're right on this, apparently the Nazi was Fred Francis Catalano.

The guy you found apparently ended up in Pennsylvania because that's where he died and also I've found this on him, coming out of Pittsburgh in 1954.

An educated guess or wrong?

Not sure what the rules are now...

Apparently Flo, Bill, Lab, and Gregory really liked the phony Cooper who scammed Fleming and Newsweek. However, when they were shown the pic of him with his hat off (he was bald) they dismissed it. Nevertheless, they seemed to really like this guy's look.

To me, I can see a little bit of the KK5-1 resemblance of the nose to chin section. But definitely no Ben Gazzara there lol !

with KK5-1 and this photo I think it's safe to say that Cooper wasn't an attractive man.

and I am a little concerned that people's recollections/identifications are: all over the map! witness hysteria due to pressure being applied to identify Cooper ?  The process is wrong and is generating false responses ? Was he a square, a star, or a circle? :dead:

Well, this guy must have really struck a nerve with Bill and Flo for them to both make such bold proclamations as to say that he's the closest resemblance that they've seen out of hundreds of photos they've been shown.

or Tina claiming she didn't see Cooper's face head on with the FBI using her for the primary sketch and the "go to" to eliminate suspects.. a massive problem for any potential prosecution.

and, current Cooper sleuth's using Tina as the gold standard.. something is up with Tina, she is being evasive or dishonest for some reason.

It is hard to believe she didn't see Cooper's face,, but she didn't want to participate in the revision of the sketch,, why, did she initially want sketch A to stand.. because it was more accurate or less accurate.

He looks very very close to sketch B, but with narrower lips and slightly saggier cheeks.. edit jowls not cheeks..

Did a jealousy or competition develop on Flo's part toward Tina, post hijacking ?  Tina getting all the attention. Tina wasn't flattering in some of her statements about how Flo handled things ?   Does this express itself in Flo's objections to the first sketches ? Was Flo saying she had the only correct description of Cooper?

Italian brunet vs. Nordic blonde ? Religious vs. Secular ? Cooper picked Tina and rejected the emotional Flo ?  What strong biases developed during this hijacking ? We already know about Rataczak's strong reactions - ...

OleMiss ?????

Well, firstly, I'd say that Cooper didn't reject the emotional Flo, I think she rejected herself by hauling ass to the cockpit! He never got a chance to reject her. Recall Tina asks Flo if she (Tina) should take the note to the cockpit and Flo says no, that she'll do it herself. So she gets up and takes off to the cockpit, not to return until they land.

I am intrigued by the fact that Flo changed airlines to Frontier at some point in mid-72. I'm curious to know what drove that. Surely she wasn't fired by Northwest because I doubt she'd have been able to get another stewardess gig if that were the case. Maybe she just didn't like living in Minneapolis and preferred to live in Denver.

I think the discussion about the sketches says way more about Tina than Flo. We have 302's where Tina says every single sketch looks like Cooper except for the August 72 "Hoodlum" sketch. Tina even says that the freaking template sketch from the night of the hijacking looks just like Cooper!

I don't think Flo was jealous of any attention that Tina got. I mean, did Tina really get the attention at the time? Papers at the time seemed to have just as many pics of Flo than Tina, perhaps even more so. Papers loved that pic of Flo with her hands up. They all seemed to run that one or the one with Tina looking tired brushing her hair away. But after the initial wave of interest with the story, I can't imagine either of them received much public attention. The FBI also seemed to pay equal attention to Flo and Tina and seemed to give them equal weight post-hijacking.

Yessir, it's pushing it, but we've been looking at suspects of a certain age for too long. We're forgetting that the first impression we have of Cooper that was given in real time while the dude himself was still sitting just 75 feet away was "in his 50's".

Also, we're not giving Bill Mitchell enough credit here. A 20 year old isn't a 14 year old. You're an adult at 20. When I was a sophomore in college I wouldn't have called a man in his early 40's an "old guy". There are men in their 50's, even late 50's who are in dang good shape. I'm not ruling them out if there is evidence that has led me to them.

So, he was 58 for the hijacking... really pushing it.

Your suspect was 58 in '71... now 58 is too old,, confusing

or did you drop him..

Vordahl was a dead end. Maybe someone else is looking into him now, I'm not sure. I've not compared notes with the other guys looking into the titanium stuff, so I don't know who they are looking at.

Maybe it's just me, but to me Composite B shows a good looking man, almost too good looking.  No one said Cooper was handsome, but then again no one really said he was ugly.

anyone remember the old MAD-TV skit of the Asian lady who could only ever say "he look like a man" when trying to describe someone?

I swear I hear that woman's voice saying "He...look like a man" every time I'm reading witness descriptions.
