I don't know the answer. Speculation is that the FBI feared that anyone who found a body and money together would take the money and conceal the body thus thwarting their investigation. Perhaps they didn't want to give too much info that would help civilians pinpoint the landing area. Just a crude guess. Nothing more.

Just curious. Does anyone know when the transcripts were released to public?

I'm not disagreeing......yet ;).... just asking. What would the effects of icing on the aircraft be in relation to this particular flight?

From Ratacsak:
At 10,000 feet out of Seattle there was a cloud layer, causing icing to occur on the aircraft. We
were flying what we call a “dirty airplane” with flaps and gear down. We were unpressurized. We had
another problem besides Cooper. Icing."

Smokin, the only icing mentioned in the transcripts was well south of Portland.

The transcripts on Sluggo's web page were Faxed to him by the FBI on June 20, 2008. I don't know if this was the first time they were publicly released.

Blevins writes:

Well, good luck on finding an artifact. It's been more than four decades now and no one has found anything except the bills and a placard. So...any submission to the FBI is restricted to doing so if and only when you find an artifact? I thought it was about flight path errors with the creation of the original map, not locating physical evidence of Cooper.

R99 replies:

As has been pointed out numerous times on this thread, parachute harness, packs, etc., are made out of material that endures a long time in the wild. And, of course, the 2+ pounds of metal, in the parachute gear alone, lasts a lot longer. The problems with the maps have been discussed at length here in case you didn't see them.

Blevins writes

It's not 'my' flight path, by the way. I didn't create that map. I only said that until irrefutable evidence arises that proves the FBI is wrong, then I have to go with the official source. I don't see anything wrong with that position. Tom Kaye and his team explored this question and also said they could not find anything wrong with it. (flight path) You'll have to ask him how he came to that conclusion.

R99 replies:

It's probably a reasonable assumption that Tom Kaye and his team came to their conclusion because that is what they concluded from their consideration of the information that was available to them.

Blevins writes:

I've also wondered sometimes that if Cooper died in the jump, why wasn't he reported missing by at least one person? Was he a total loner? Had he no family? Sure, there are people like that. But this really narrows down the Cooper gene pool. You have relatives, friends, co-workers, your landlord or mortgage holder, all sorts of people who interact in your life. For a person to be completely isolated from the world and eventually not be reported missing by SOMEONE seems unlikely. Possible...yes, but unlikely. This brings up another avenue of research perhaps: Checking missing person reports generated in Washington State and Oregon between November 25th 1971 and say...March of 1972.

R99 replies:

Why don't you demonstrate your great investigative skills by doing that missing persons search?

Blevins writes:

Tom Kaye has already gone on record at least twice saying he doesn't believe the money arrived at Tina Bar by 'natural means'. Again...you should talk to him about this. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, either. You really should, and maybe pin him down better on WHY. I mean a heart-to-heart that goes beyond what is on the Citizen Sleuths website.

R99 replies:

Did you notice anything in Tom Kaye's research about what happens to money in water? Was he talking about money moving downstream? Didn't he answer the very questions you are asking?

Blevins, it would be a good idea if you actually did something constructive if you consider yourself a "Cooper researcher", a leading one or otherwise, and do your own homework. Sending re-hashed information to various LE agencies, e-mails to their media spoke persons, is not research.

I happen to catch a rerun of the National Geographic show "The SkyJacker that got Away"

Starring!

Coss, Kaye, Carr and a cast of many.

My take aways....

Coss thinks Cooper was inexperieced

Kaye thinks Cooper is Dead and thinks Cooper body, parachute and money got pulled "up-river" by the prop of a ship. The prop action and pulling might have caused the money bag to rip open, allowing the bundles of money to come out and deposit at Tena Bar. Cooper body probably in the ocean.

Carr thinks Cooper is dead.

My take on Kaye and Carr thinking Cooper is dead (a) only evidence found on the ground was the small amount of money (b) money was found on a river bank (c) He must have hit the cold water and died in the cold water.

If I was to believe them, then I would think Cooper had a death wish.

Oh Yea....something was said about KC but I only watched the last 1/2 hour.

Ever had anything fouled around your prop and shaft... let me assure you... all that nylon from a parachute would have been noticed on the prop of even the LARGEST ship that transits the Columbia. There would be vibration that would be noticible to every one on board such a ship. Also.. that kind of crap does not just fall off... you have to cut it off. 377 can probably confirm how much fun that is. I have been on even sizable fishing boats that fouled crab pot lines and floating debris from nets... I have also anchored my 32' boat to a crap pot that was riding underwater due to a very fast ebb tide.. trust me.. anchoring your boat by iots prop so that the cuttent is hitting it sterm first.. is not a place you want to be.

"This is downright ridiculous, and only proves that Smokin99 has one thumb placed somewhere, and another placed elsewhere...and switches every thirty minutes."

“When ice is encountered, immediately start working to get out of it. Unless the condition is freezing rain, or freezing drizzle, it rarely requires fast action and certainly never panic action, but it does call for positive action.”

do you know the temps aloft on the flight path? 3,000, 5000, 10,000? what type of rain was falling according to most accounts?

Washington has a high percentage over most states on icing aloft.

where does most icing occur Bobby? high altitudes or low?

9:28 flight 305 reports "airframe icing" being experienced. engine anti-icing on for a appreciable length of time. wing AI on "Intermittently" crew seems slightly concerned about this, but were assured that it was no problem.

this tells me it was happening before the time frame reported.

what gave you the idea to make such a rude comment about something you apparently have no knowledge of?

I read an article about about Robb Dolin who skyjacked an airplane in 1972 and sucessfully parachuted to the ground but was caught.

I think we can develop a partial profile for Cooper based on Dolin.

He was in Vietnam during the Cooper hijacking.
He didn't know the details about the Cooper skyjack,
only that it happen.

He had over 100 jumps. The Hijacking was his first night jump.

He got 100 dollar bills in the amount of 200,000 and stuffed
them in a vest pockets. Had to leave some money behind.

He misjudge the jump and landed far from his car he had parked
along side a road for getaway.

He "BURIED" the money when he landed. Don't know if that was part
of the original plan.

He got busted when Authorities caught him going to his vehicle. (they had staked out)

He told authorities he lost the money on the way down.

He said he had PTSD and it appears he didn't care if he lived or die
when he hijacked the plane.

The PTSD and Vietnam leading someone to not care if he lived or die sounds some what like a Cooper profile.

The FBI could have a list of MISSING Vietnam veterans or people in general, high on their list for being DB COOPER. FBI can't PROOVE it because Cooper's body hasn't been found.

Family hasn't come forth because they don't want to give their missing relative a bad name OR the family would have NEVER suspected their missing relative of hijacking a plane.

?????SO WHERE IS THE "FBI" LIST OF EVERYBODY WHO WENT MISSING ON OR AROUND NOVEMBER 24, 1971???????

Even a non-pilot like me understands that icing would rapidly change the configuration of any lift to the aircraft...especially since it was flying with flaps and wheels down at lower than normal speed. The crew would have contacted Cooper immediately and told him they had an emergency, as well as the ground. Then they would have descended to combat the icing and hit the wing de-icers.

This is downright ridiculous, and only proves that Smokin99 has one thumb placed somewhere, and another placed elsewhere...and switches every thirty minutes.

Yes, Really....

according to the records nobody can verify that this all happened at 9:28. it was reported at 9:28. the wing AI was already being used "intermittently" this would be a concern from take off due to the weather conditions.

there was absolutely no reason to say what you said to 99.

Jo States:

If what I believe to be true per things I found in my home and a large jar Duane kept in the garage - there will be NOTHING of the chute left in WA.

Remember that Duane carried in his wallet a small cloth - naive me thought was a prayer cloth. Should have known better. After he died I discarded this but did tell Mr. H about it when I contacted him 1 and 1/2 yrs later after understanding what Duane had told me. He asked me what color it was and I cannot remember that any more. Perhaps in my exchanges with him by phone I made a note. I keep wanting to think it had some color to it but a faded color very very light. It was NOT something I really took note of - it was just a square of cloth more than one inch wide - maybe 1 & 1/2 inches or less.

Plus the jar: 5 months before he died I was setting up for a garage sale & throwing things out. He pointed out a Jar like a gallon (whatever size they use to use in restuarants in the day) what I think at one time held pickles or mayonnaise. It had a large mouth.

He instructed me not to let that jar go. When I asked him what was in it - his answer was even odder. He said it was parts to an old chute. I noted they were corroded and mentioned they would be of no value (thought if was something he had been going to sell). He was VERY firm about my making sure the jar was not taken. Well, after he died, stupid me not knowing about D.B.Cooper and that the name given on the plane was DAN Coooper - I got rid of the damn jar.

All I have is my memory of what it held. It was JUNK to me. There was a thing in there that coiled in the jar - and 377 did send me a picture of something that looked like it. There was also a large ring, but I never took it out and examined it. There were some other things. but this is ALL I remember. I have always wanted to see one of those chutes and perhaps I could ID another part, but have chose NOT to contaminate my memory by doing so. If one of you guys wanted to mix up some old things from one of those chutes and put them in a jar - just to see what I pick out - go for it.

I think to continue to search the area is futile - because from his being so protective of the jar - if he didn't take out everything then - he later went back and got them.

His missing for all of those hours when he left me at The DALLES - where the hell did he go. I only ONE time had the key to his vehicle until we bought the station wagon in 1983. I really do NOT remember seeing the jar before until he pointed it out to me a few months before he died...so I would NOT know were it was kept. Could have been inside of the large metal locked container he kept - He did have some tax files in there as he brought ALL of that stuff into the house before he died.

Prior to that he kept the box locked in the car and I do NOT know were it was for several yrs when it would have been exposed in the station wagon. He had an office in the house and another one provided by the company.

Now, I remember! He brought the old tax files (1968 to 1976) into the house and put them with OUR tax file...yet I never went thru them until after he died. Those pieces of metal showed up in the jar about that same time. I expect they were in the metal file cabinet with the tax record, but NOT in a jar, until that point.

I am working hard to remember every detail of the things he did that seemed NOT so normal.

Well, what if the jumper only had family he was separated from for yrs - remember Duane's family (the brother and sister) he had NO contact for many many yrs. Everyone else was deceased. The last time Duane saw his brother was in 1958 - Duane was already dead to John. The sister he had NOT contacted in YRS. since 1971 until he finally called her on Christmas of 1987. It was not until then he felt safe enough to call her (my opinion). She sent him some pictures of herself and a few family pictures to him thur a P.O. Box in another area. Back then we didn't have caller ID - so he was not worried about her tracing his call and he knew she would never turn him in for anything. She had his back in the past and continued this till the end.

After she had her heart attack and met me in 2004 (then and only then realizing I WAS NOT the woman with him in 1971) - she sent me a letter asking me to LEAVE the PAST in the PAST. She BEGGED. The letter was a pleading one. I had told her I was not "that" woman - but, she did NOT believe me until that day in the Hospital - you could SEE the relieve in her face and then the smile! At least she finanlly knew I was not "THAT" woman. I never got to see her again. Her son took her to Tx about a yr before she died.

Greetings Everyone,

I thought I'd share a report on the DB Cooper Music Festival that was held last weekend near Olympia, Washington, just beneath the early stages of 305's flight path.

DZ bad-boy Meyer Louie was there and penned this account, which I have just posted at the Mountain News. It sounds like Meyer had fun and he is putting out a call for Cooper sleuths to join him next year at the Music Festival to spread some of the wealth of information about Coop we have gathered.

**********************************************************

August 4, 2013

Report on the DB Cooper Music Festival at Medicine Creek Winery

I attended the festival this afternoon at Medicine Creek Winery in Nisqually, WA. It was only 10 minutes from my house, so I thought, “Why not?!” I arrived mid-afternoon and had the option of paying $10, $15, or $20 – depending on how long I wanted to stay. I paid $15.

I listened to three bands – mostly reggae and blues – it was all top-notch music – very nice. It was hot -mid 80s – but the Medicine Creek Winery facility was quite spacious, cool, and comfortable. The inside area was a nice bar and restaurant, with lots of elbow room. People were sunning, shading, eating, drinking, and listening to good music. The turnout was pretty good, and it was clean, comfortable - quite classy, in fact.

I looked around for anything Cooper – any booths, costumes, or people just talking about Cooper – and all I found was one guy in the first band I listened to – he was dressed up just like DB Cooper – shades, black tie, dark sports jacket, white shirt. The resemblance was uncanny – shocking, in fact.

He looked a lot like the sunglasses composite of Cooper. He was a bit young, but the resemblance was scary. Then he posed next to the composite of Cooper that was hanging on the wall (the official DB Cooper Music Festival poster – check it out on Google or Facebook – I’m sure it will be there) – and, except for being a little young, he looked just like the Cooper composite. I’m serious! I asked him if he was a nephew or grandson of DB Cooper, he said he didn’t think so.

Other than that, there was nothing else Cooper at the DB Cooper Music Festival. I must admit, I was disappointed. The focus was the music, not our man. So I got a little creative – or so I thought.
I asked around about who had any information on the man for whom the festival was supposed to be about. One of the concession ladies said her husband had written the Facebook ad about Cooper for the festival. I found him. Turns out he was a member of one of the bands. He acknowledged writing the piece on Cooper, and he said he got all of the information from Wikipedia. I had read it last night, on Facebook – most of write-up was correct, just a couple of glitches on the basic facts. He, in turn, introduced me to the emcee – the guy who was introducing all of the acts. I informed him that I am one of the guys who is still investigating the Cooper case. One band had just finished, a new band was coming on, so what does the emcee do? He gets up and tells the crowd there is an actual “Cooper investigator” in the crowd. He pointed me out and introduced me as “Louie” and encouraged anyone who wanted to talk about the DB Cooper case to find me and I’d be willing to answer their questions (okay, I agreed to this beforehand). I got several takers actually. It was fun answering their questions and talking about the many suspects and theories out there.

Before I left the festival, I gave the emcee my business card and offered to set up a booth at next year’s festival. The booth would be an information booth about DB Cooper – books, articles, souvenirs, T-shirts, if you will - you know - real information and facts about DB Cooper – for whom the festival was supposed to be about. The emcee (who was also one of the event organizers) was open to the idea.

So, next year we might have a booth. If it comes to that, I will ask for your assistance – volunteers, books, articles, souvenirs –whatever you think should go into our little DB Cooper information booth. There were some big name local sponsors for the festival – so, who knows, the festival may become a big deal someday. It was fun.

Quick post in reply -

Blevins you literally don't know what you;re talking about.

I said "two days" because I knew it would take time to round up replies and call a few people - but response has been quick and
almost savage in response to your Dropzone OUTBURST AND WRONG FACTS!

This comes from both Rczk and Bill Scott: quote: "Icing occured
between SEA and PDX .... it was the reason I called back to
Cooper at 2005, the icing and turbulence since he was trying to
set things up to bail ... "

So the icing was between Seattle and Portland roughly during
the 2005 period specifically ... and I will post many references
(sources) tonight when I have time.

Robt99 your citation is from the recent Rczk NWA presentation:
Let me quote the passage: "At 10,000 feet out of Seattle there
was a cloud layer, causing icing to occur on the aircraft. We
were flying what we call a “dirty airplane” with flaps and gear
down. We were unpressurized. We had another problem besides
Cooper. Icing caused Bill to call back to Cooper about 2005 ...
we knew he was wanting to jump and we were trying to
accomodate him thus we were flying "dirty"..."

So Blevins once again you are wroing, with prejudice.

I will post more tonight when I am home and have more time -

There is more.

100% of all replies and calls today have Blevins wrong. The
icing was between Seattle and Portland, just as previously
recorded by many in this forum over the years.

Later.

"Really? I said 'between Seattle and Portland'."

Yes, Really....

Time 15:26 – 16:11 PST

Flt 305 establishes a holding pattern NE of SEA at 6000 ft. MSL and 15 – 20 NM out along the 307º radial of the SEA VORTAC. Early in this period they reported low visibility and icing conditions. Late in this period they reported improved visibility with scattered clouds at 5000 to 5500 feet. They later asked to go out to 30 NM DME a on the same radial to avoid rain. At some point during this period SEA App Con became aware of the hijacking. Probably after 15:58.

That quote is from R's recent NWA talk. I have posted the whole

same thing only expanded it saying it was 2005 when conditions
caused him to call back to Cooper and explain the turbulence

Been reading all the stuff about the plane dropping altituted because of icing.

Witness reports indicated the plane dropped down lower just around Battleground and N of there. I found NOTHING to document this other than the word of witnesses. 4 in one location and 3 other in 3 other locations.

I do not think they crew knew when Cooper exited, other than the thump and that could have been the door bouncing back up - not when he jump. If Cooper hit the
air and the wind - he would have gone N of the direction the plane was going - there are too many things with the flight projectory that just does NOT match what witnesses claimed. Out of the 7 above - 3 are deceased and maybe 2 more pretty soon. Only one of these at this time is young enough and sharp enough to be heard.

The Co-PILOT admits to flying dirty.

Since they passed so close to Mt. St. Helen - I will ask a STUPID OLE WOMAN QUESTION. Could the temperature changes and the humidity changes from the volcano cause the plane to ice? In OTHER WORDS I have NO IDEA what I am talking about.

Was the icing not early on?

Jimmie was a parachute instructor in Pensacola (Alberta, AL is the business location). He died in a jump in Lumberton, Miss this week-end.

I met him one time and briefly asked him a question, but never got back to him. He was in a truck in a parking lots and I noted the wording on the truck - this was YRS and YRS ago.

He told me to come out to the area were they did the Emerald Coast Skydives. I never got to go. Should have gone and asked the divers questions, but was afraid of exposing myself to the general public - which I no longer wanted to deal with.

That was my one brief meeting with this guy! Do NOT understand WHY it was 3 HOURS after the jump the sheriff was contacted.

P.S. Just went over to the Blue Skies thread and read what little has been said. It would not be appropriate for Skyjack71 to horn in, but I did want to see how many had posted. Very few and the funeral is on Thursday. I will note our BillyVance had posted and BillyVance is somehow connected to Airtwardo! That was a surprise.

Airwardo and BillyVance - now how did those 2 get tangled up. Airwardo is nice - Billy Vance is an ass. AT least in postings directed at me or PM'ed to me.
