howardwhite 6 #1 February 13, 2008 The "Pioneers of Sport Parachuting" is a bunch of, well, old skydivers who get together once in a while and swap stories. The previous reunion was in Nevada in 2006; lots of low D-numbers, original Golden Knights, etc. This year's reunion will be in Salt Lake City in June. More info on the PIA web site here. JerryBaumchen 1,363 #2 February 13, 2008 Hi howard, I've been to two of them and would call them an 'unusual' get together. However, for those interested, Jim Arender ( The USA's first World Champion ) was at both of them that I was at. I do not know if he will make this one. JerryBaumchen PS) However, is anyone is looking for VERY low D-license signatures for their logbook(s), that would be an event to show up at.
howardwhite 6 #3 February 13, 2008 Arender was also at the 2006 one in Nevada. We had a long talk. He was a good friend of the late Hadden Wood of New York, whose exploits and stories would be interesting fodder for this forum if he were still around to share. JerryBaumchen 1,363 #4 February 14, 2008 Hi howard, Quote Hadden Wood of New York, whose exploits and stories Wasn't he the guy who jumped into the hot-air baloon just as it was lifting off for a cross-Atlantic flight? Not quite in the flight-plan, as I recall. JerryBaumchen
howardwhite 6 #5 February 14, 2008 I don't remember that, but it's completely in character. He did make a widely reported (bandit) jump into Central Park in NYC, among many other things. HW
