howardwhite 6 #1 September 28, 2008 Not a jump plane, but... A friend, ex-jumper, ex-jump pilot, took this and several others this summer. He flew his Stearman on trips around the midwest with it, and has some interesting stories. It's probably the only one flying. I'll post others later. DENNISA 0 #4 September 29, 2008 Sorry Howard This airplane was a main story in EAA's Sport Aviation magazine. Every EAA member has seen this one. Dennis Anderson D-2759 EAA # 96212

zoobrothertom 5 #7 September 29, 2008 What year was it built? Open cockpit but internal seating for the passengers! Looks like fun. "Don't worry about the weather folks! howardwhite 6 #9 September 29, 2008 QuoteWhat year was it built? Open cockpit but internal seating for the passengers! Looks like fun. Google Boeing 40C and you'll find a lot. My friend told me the open cockpit was to give the (mail) pilot a better sense of the weather (being right out there in it.) He could converse with the passengers via a telephone. The mail itself, as well as the passengers, were in the wood-paneled cabin. There was also a story about how, when the plane crashed in California years ago, rumors circulated about diamonds being on board, which prompted endless searches. Guess I've got to find the EAA magazine. HW

Meux 0 #18 August 3, 2010 Not sure it has anything to do with anything, but this morning I had breakfast with Bill Weaver. He's the guy who survived an SR-71 breaking up at 78,000' and mach 3+. Super nice guy who has some amazing stories. Going back into stealth mode.

That way you wear your sport rig, have a handheld GPS in your pocket, a handheld radio, cellphone and some snacks in your other pockets. At least I've heard that worked for someone before... --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
