JeffSkydiver 0 #1 October 2, 2008 I always read with fascination and humor the exchanges back and forth between all of you who made your mark in our world skydiving, instructing and rigging at the Hills back in the "day" (70's). You all seem so glad to have found each other again via DZ.com. Many of you have gotten together, e.g., the recent Moore/Hooper reunion. Thanksgiving weekend is always great at the Hills - great jumps, people and a kick ass dinner. Why not start urging each other to meet up there next month, perhaps over Thanksgiving weekend? Call Carl D. at DeLand and anyone else you are in contact with who are still in Florida and beyond. If you can get this together it would be real cool for us "new guys" (I didn't start jumping until 1981) to meet you and see all the faces behind the great stories here in this forum. I would love to hear these and other stories first-hand. Might have to check on Carbone though, he may still be banned! Whether you jump or not, it would be nice to get together, no? By the way, I'm not in any way affiliated with ZHills; so I'm not floating this idea for any personal gain. If you guys did this, I would surely be there. Last time I heard, Jerry Bird is still around. Seems like most of the rest of you "legends" are on here or can find each other. Please consider doing this. Thanks, JT* Let's all do this safe enough that we can still do this in our 90's.
RogerRamjet 0 #2 October 2, 2008 Scotty and Tammi generally winter at Z-Hills, so I would expect them to be there. They were talking about retiring from all the travel though, so I don't know for sure. As of now, I have no particular Turkey plans, so I might be able to come up for that and see some old friends. I wonder if Hoop is planning a stateside visit anytime soon... it sure would be great to see him there again! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 October 3, 2008 Scotty still makes it out a few days a month to jump. Jerry Bird comes and hangs out a few times a week, but has not jumped in quite some time.

HimHim 0 #5 November 10, 2008 No shit, there I was, yesterday, talking to Jim Hooper, Jerry Bird, Scotty Carbone, Ski and Donna, and Ron Schott. My head started to hurt trying to add up how many years of skydiving they collectively represented. Hoop was just passing through and stopped by to see who was around. Where's a camera when you need one.Sundance: (chuckling) "You just keep thinkin' Butch...that's what yer good at."

I could have been there yesterday and of course I know every one of those you mentioned. It does make your head spin a bit; quite a group there (you included)! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Scotty too. Jerry knows everybody, so he stops out most weekends and visits. Jerry was talking about his book. He said that it may end up being 3 books because of the different topics that come up. The interesting part was hearing a conversation about 40-way speed competitions. One thing that bugs me is that there is a lot of knowledge being lost. It seems that skydivers are always re-learning how to overcome obstacles that other skydivers have already mastered. You hear "this one time, we figured out how to build a 40-way faster because the ends..." or "the front float on the 8-way piece launch needs to..." We talk about The Bonfire forum here. At the dz, the bonfire is a source of knowledge. Instead of spending 200 jumps figuring something out, I just talked about it at the fire one evening and someone told me. lodestar 0 #8 November 11, 2008 Wish I could be there for thanksgiving, unfortunately I'm booked in a huge festival on the suwannee river that weekend.... Don't get down that way much anymore but usually stop in if I've got the time and inclination. A reunion would be a fun thing....might be nice to see everyones face once again.....
