steellex 0 #29 March 21, 2002 Did my first heli jump in Dec 01 during the inaugural Sri Lanka boogie. Exit height of 11K for only USD$12!!! Climb to altitude on board the Russian MI17 was just under 20 mins. We leapt off the ramp door and the feeling was absolutely AWESOME! Much like jumping off a Skyvan with less forward speed. SkymonkeyONE 4 #30 March 21, 2002 While true that we used to regularly sport jump from helicopters for free every weekend, those days ended nearly a decade ago. Nowadays, it is a very rare occasion that we get the blade time. Yes, we still regularly jump HALO out of UH-60's here on Bragg, but with a 65 pound MC-4 on your back it's just not as fun.As for the initial post: we normally jump at around 80 or 90 knots, so it is just like jumping from any other plane at that airspeed. I am lucky enough to have jumped from a great variety of helicopters. My favorite, though, was when we had regular access to the CH-54 Skycranes (with "the box" attached) in Alabama. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING could climb like that thing. They would occasionally hook us up with some hovers at altitude; absolutely nuts.Chuck My webpage HERE
wildblue 7 #31 March 21, 2002 Some times you'll get a mean pilot, who will only give you 40 feet or so....<------Never argue with stupid people. They just drag you down 2 their level & beat you with experience

Engovatov 0 #35 March 22, 2002 I have done a bunch of jumps from Mi-8 back in Russia - it's a regular jump craft in many drop zones. Ours had a huge opening in the rear, lifted 20 people very fast, and felt like a CASA or something (decent forward speed). Jump ticket are around $10 there now, was like $2.. ;)Some photo for ya:http://www.skydive.ru/photos//Av17.jpghttp://www.skydive.ru/photos//Av19.jpgNice tandem exit out of a heli: http://www.skydive.ru/photos//Av5.jpg - and notice the size of this thing (probably Mi26? This thing lifts, what 30 tons?)

E150 0 #38 March 25, 2002 I did a 4500ft jump from a chopper for $45. It was great, the chopper was hovering and you do get a falling feeling, but not for very long.
