howardwhite 6 #1 January 14, 2010 That's the tag line on this ad from Sky Diver July, 1963. Anyone ever see one in real life? HW
JerryBaumchen 1,363 #2 January 14, 2010 Hi howard, I only saw a photo, one time, of someone jumping with one. It is called a GripCord. You held it in your hand, some cabling ran up your arm & to the backpack where it was connected to the top pin. When you squeezed it, it pulled the pin. Another 'great' idea that is in the dustbin of history. JerryBaumchen
howardwhite 6 #3 January 14, 2010 Well, that was quick.HW
pchapman 279 #4 January 15, 2010 So maybe you can squeeze it 2", plenty for the top pin, but then accumulated slack in the ripcord makes the bottom pin not quite clear the cone, and the MA-1 pilot chute may or may not squirm its way out... I'll think I'll pass.
howardwhite 6 #5 January 15, 2010 But it's only $12.95 (US). What could possibly go wrong? HW
JerryBaumchen 1,363 #6 January 15, 2010 Hi Peter, Quote accumulated slack in the ripcord makes the bottom pin not quite clear the cone No slack if the ripcord is properly built. While this thing was sort of nutzy it did work. BTW, when I was reading the 'Floating Reserve Ripcord' thread I actually thought of this device.
