tuffjump 0 #102 May 13, 2011 Made 6 static lines. Had first malfunction (line over canopy) reserve deployment on my first free fall. Kept leaving my left arm stretched out during pull.
RonD1120 62 #103 May 17, 2011 QuoteWe are talking 1970’s here. The question came up the other day while we waited for a load with some other veterans who started in the round days. As a jumpmaster and instructor, I remember the norm was 5 static line jumps. Then you would progress to 3 clear & pulls, followed by 3 delays of 5, 10, and 20 seconds. After that a 30 second delay and then released from training. Most of us made 5 (except for me, I made 11and didn't get on 30‘s for 70 jumps). But a couple of guys said they made 3 and then their clear and pulls. FJC with Beachcombers SPC, Destin FL. Jumpmasters were USAF CCT. I made 3 SL w/3 DRCP's and cleared for FF. I decided to make 2 more since the BSR's stated 5 SL's. Therefore, 5 SL w/5 DRCP. In later years after acquiring my D License, I made 2 military SL jumps which I considered sport jumps.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Krip 2 #104 May 18, 2011 Hi Cap I resemble that that remark junior. 1968: How many S/l jumps? somewhere between 5-8 maybe. I'm so old that its not worth my effort to find my log book to come up with a specific number.Anyone remember doing combat RWWhen did a drcp get changed to a prcp? When did the tradition of getting pied or champagne poured over the head get changed from 1k to 100 jumps. SC is the speaker's corner forum. 5 static line jumps in '80, at Wild Horse West (Larry Hill's), and Sky-Hi Pioneers Sport Parachute Club (Charlie Merritt's).People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. sundevil777 102 #110 May 20, 2011 12 dummy pulls! There must be a story there worth hearing. There was a regular at Marana, real small guy that jumped a dactyl in the early 80s, he told the story about how he counted so fast during his first few SL jumps that he would pull his reserve - I think it was his first 2 or 3 jumps. oldwomanc6 60 #112 May 21, 2011 I've been waiting all week to post this. It may be the end of the world as we know it, but, 21 May, 2011 is the 33rd anniversary of my first jump ('78). It was out of a DC3 in Elsinore. It was also my first airplane ride! I had quite a few takeoffs before any landings. I made 6 s/l jumps. My first FF was a hard pull (how many of us thought that, and how many really did have a hard pull at that point?) Things went well until my 11th jump when I had my first mal, but that story belongs in another thread on another day. lisa p.s. anyone remember the coolness you felt when you could walk around with the rented ripcord? Or when you could proudly walk around with your pull-up cord firmly attached to a belt loop? lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB

wmw999 2,534 #114 May 21, 2011 Man, I'd forgotten about the pull-up through the belt loop. I still use a "classic" pull-up cord -- it's the only kind. Everyone played hackey, and we just tried stuff with gear and jumping. Want to convert to hand-deploy? Take off those cones, put in some elastic loops and use bights of bridle. Figure out a place to put the pilot chute. Want to try a square pilot chute? Sure, sew one up. But even then I was pretty sure I was only cool in my own mind. When you say "classic" do you mean 550 cord with the guts pulled out? Or 5/8" binding tape (which was easier on the hands)? I ordered one of the first Racers in So.Cal. and almost immediately converted it to leg strap. I just begged some scraps of parapack, took it home and converted it(velcro was widely available). A little PVC pipe to take the place of the "pud", a longer bridle and good to go. Never had a problem with the mod. Maybe a little ignorance is bliss? lisalisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB

wartload 0 #122 May 24, 2011 1969 ... at a VERY informal club "out in the country": 15 minutes of ground school, most of which was explaining how to judge the wind and how to turn the canopy. There was a brief explanation of how to cut the main canopy away, but the instructor used a Stevens Static Line system for the reserve, and believed that all you needed to teach was the cutaway. 2 SL jumps 1 DRCP on the third jump 3 hop & pops (packed my own main for them and thereafter) 3 10 sec delays Next jump was a 30 sec delay and on my own after that. tuffjump 0 #125 May 28, 2011 Was in the early 70s at Delray dz made six static lines, kept leaving that left arm out and flipping over. My first ff did the same and had my first mal....line over canopy. Was a good start though ended up cutting away my Sled 14 times before the slider came along....lol.
