Hi Scott,

And when and where was that Jerry?

9 Feb 64 - Jens Jorgeson ran a 'dz' out of Evergreen Airport in Vancouver, WA & we jumped out of his Stinson V-77 Gull Wing. The 'drop zone' was a farmer's field ~ 10 miles out in the country.

As we climbed for altitude I happened to look down at a cemetary; now that made me even more nervous. :P

If you made more than one jump in a day, you were 'hitting it hard.' :S

Didn't Ralph run a dz up in that area in the 60's?

I have made many jumps at pierson and Evergreen as well

YEah I think he was in Brush Prairie for a while.. but that was long gone when I moved to Vancouver in 1981. I think by then he was already over at Mollala and Ted Mayfield had Sheridan over by McMinville.

Ralph is over at Skydive Eagle Creek in Estacada now... and has been there for a long time.. filling up all those buildings with skydiving gear history;)

I grew up at Estacada as a teenager, and made over 1000 jumps out of the Beaver. those were the days.
I worked for Ralph full time for almost 10 years,

Hi Scott,

At the time of my first jump, Ralph was running a 'dz' out of Pearson Air Park & ( also ) driving about 10 miles out in the boonies to jump.

I actually made my last DRCP & 1st freefall out of Ralph's dz at Pearson.

Later in '64 or early in '65, he opened a dz at Scholls Airport with the landing area ~ 3/4 miles away. I, and most of the other club members, relocated to that dz in ~mid-'65. That was a great dz to jump at; lots of good people there.

I have made a lot of jumps out of Hatley's airplanes.

Ted Mayfield ( and his then partner, Chet Lundberg ) had sort of a 'gypsy' dz in those days; just going from airport to airport wherever they could get an airplane & make some jumps. Then in ~'69 or so, Ted bought some land near Donald, OR & opened his first actual 'dz.' He was there until the county shut him down in ~'72. He then moved to Sheridan, OR where he operated until calling it quits.

You have any videographers setup to cover your event?

I've got an autistic little one of my own. Whats the going rate of hop-and-pops at your DZ so I can fund a couple?

Hi Jerry

On your ride to altitude did you also notice the rail road tracks.

"Almost back in the day" For some reason a lot of DZ's in the midwest were located close by cemetary's and RR tracks.

One of my worst experiences at our home DZ was backing up under a rag towards the RR tracks and there was a damn freight train that looked 100 miles long using the tracks at the same time we were getting blown backwards:S.

Decisions, decisions the rag didn't have much go go juice, we were facing away from the tracks trying to hold into a 10-15 mph wind, and had to keep on looking over our shoulder. Just in case we needed to go to plan B and try run down wind to fly over the tracks, and that damn train.

How much did we pay for our first jump course back in 68? Due to my OLD condition It was so long ago I really can't remember for sure. [:/] I do recall We were trained by a club on a AFB so the training could have been free.

R.I.P.

We have rescheduled the jump day to April 2nd which is a Saturday so more people can attend. The 3rd will be an alternate day.

There is a new donations thread in the Bonfire now called
"30 jumps in one day, fundraiser for Autism Awareness"

I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity is much appreciated.
Onward and Upward!

Well, just about everyone has a camera on these days and i will be doing some shooting myself. I am also trying to get some support from the local media.
I believe hop and pops are
$15 each

Ill be there with my CX110 and my DSLR. Maybe we could get a little footage/pics from different people put something togeather? I would love to really put my editing software to some good use.
