TM What do you do???

Recommended Posts

Your going to land in deep water, there is NO avioding this water landing? What do you do?

Lets say it was an emergency exit, and there are no floatation devices on your person?

These are my thoughts, but i'm looking for better or more efficient ideas.

Bottom clips undone. My chest strap undone.
Flare above the water. When we hit, unhook the top two connector links and slide out of the harness like a sport rig.

The problem I'm thinking of, is if there is a weight unbalence under the water, the clips on top may have some problems.

For those tandem masters that are around water alot, what is your input. Extra large floatation devices?

Can't avoid it? No rescue on it's way?

Laterals un-hooked. RSL off. MY chest strap off. Student chest strap and belly band off. student leg straps losened. Brief student to cross arms untill we hit the water, and hold their breath, try to resist swiming till we're unhooked. Flair for landing, be prepared to have flaired too high, hold the flair. Hit the water and cutaway main. Un hook top hooks, push student towards the surface. Ditch the rig. Find student, help them out of their harness. Swim for survival, with student.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

funny you should mention this. I thought i was going to have this scenario a couple weeks ago. strong uppers and short spot put me close to lake backing up for a minute.

I thought about how to do this while i was telling student that we wont get to airport but plenty of landing area beneath us. (didnt tell her lake was right in back of us)

I decided to unhook lats, unhook ripcord (from student harness) loosen her leg straps, unhook rsl, take my chest strap off.

got as far as unhooking lats and rsl when we got enough penatration down lower to miss the lake.

The plan was to flare into water and chop. I was going to brief student to hold breath and relax as i unhooked top hooks. also to swim underwater for as long as she could. push her away and ditch rig.
I figured she could swim just fine with the harness on.
