freebird 0 #1 January 22, 2002 What is a psycho pack job? The longer you wait ........the more sense you get.
PhreeZone 20 #2 January 22, 2002 Look at Icuras Canopies web site for detailed directions on how to Psycho pack. Generally, its known for nice slow opening but its different and will get funny looks when you start inducing line twists as you pack.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
Slowfaller 0 #3 January 22, 2002 Is the psycho pack generally as reliable as a pro pack? What are the cons of a psycho pack? (other than putting a line twist in your lines. IMHO you would have to be an idiot to not untwist them when the canopy is in the bag)CHris
Kirils 1 #4 January 22, 2002 I psycho pack just about everything (except a Vengence). My packs are smaller and have more consistant openings than the standard ProPack folding. If you jump a rad elipiticalyou need it to open the same way every time. Psycho it!You might also want to check out the Wolmari pack, it's a major upgrade on the standard pro.Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability... billvon 2,995 #5 January 22, 2002 >Is the psycho pack generally as reliable as a pro pack?If you do everything right, yes. Of course that's true of just about every pack job out there. It's pretty safe to say that whatever pack job you are best at will give you the most reliable results.> What are the cons of a psycho pack? -One more step (flipping the bag back over)-You may need a longer bridle from bridle attach to base of bag-bill von
Slowfaller 0 #6 January 22, 2002 Thanks Bill. The only reason I asked about the psycho pack being any less reliable than the pro is because nobody seems to do it at my DZ. I personally like it a lot better that the pro because I find it a hell of a lot easier and quicker. I still haven't jumped a psycho packed canopy. I plan to jump my psycho hornet as soon as I get down to a DZ and have a rigger make sure I hooked my main up to my risers correctly.CHris
riggerrob 643 #7 January 23, 2002 The worst thing about Psycho packing is the funny name. The best thing about Psycho packing is that rolling the canopy makes it easier to stuff into the bag. You can incorporate that roll into any other packing method.

Aviatrr 0 #9 January 24, 2002 Quote Is the psycho pack generally as reliable as a pro pack? I have psycho packed close to 300 times.....and never had a problem with bad openings.. It actually tamed the 'ole Sabre that slammed me fairly often Pro-packed.. The only canopy I never psycho packed was the Crossfire - and that's only because one of the Icarus guys told me that psycho packing the Crossfire yielded really nasty openings - so I never tried it..Mike

Don't psycho your Crossfire. The Icarus Europe rep Sascha told me not to psycho pack it because the Crossfire is designed to open slowly (trim and leading edge design). A Psycho pack opens more slowly than a pro pack in the first third of the opening process. Icarus tells their customers to use a normal pro pack.Nevertheless I jumped my CF once using a psychopack. I won't do that again Marcus
