StevieBoy 0 #1 January 26, 2002 Driving past my DZ this afternoon I saw a canopy land that had been cutaway, closley followed by a sky-surfer, MAN HE WAS LOOOOW, I could tell by the expression on his face.A question went through my head.If I had a reserve ride & had a line-over & had to cut that line, would it be safer to un-stow my breaks or use my risers? I've tried thinking about it but haven't come up with any answers, any help here would be great. Aviatrr 0 #2 January 26, 2002 Well, if your lineover was caused by a brake line, and you cut it......you'd be stuck with rear risers.. If it was a suspension line that you cut, then go with the toggles.. I broke three lines on a Sabre and it flew and landed fine......but that's not to say that all canopies will fly fine with the same three lines broken, or that the specific canopy would fly fine with three different lines broken.. StevieBoy 0 #3 January 26, 2002 Did you break 3 lines on a reserve ride, if not, providing it was a suspension line you cut, & you could steer the canopy, would you take the chance to release the breaks.>"but that's not to say that all canopies will fly fine with the same three lines broken, or that the specific canopy would fly fine with three different lines broken"Sorry to be a pain."Skydiving's a source, it'll change your life, swear to God"

No, it was a main.. It was a Sabre 150 that opened so hard it broke 3 lines and broke one of my ribs.. It also knocked me senseless(possibly unconscious, I don't know for sure) and I regained my composure(and realized where the hell I was) at about 500ft.. I could have cutaway from there if I really needed to, but it was flying straight and there was a big clear field up ahead - so I elected to land it.. If I had been at 1,000ft or better, I would've chopped without a second thought.. Mike
