Does USPA have a specific exam or does the DZs make their own?

There is no written exam. It's an more of an oral exam. Look in the SIM. All you need is you proficiency card filled and stamped to get an A.

Like Dave said, there is no longer a written exam for the A-license. There is a verbal exam. The completed and stamped A-license proficiency card is the A-license. No need to send it in to USPA at all unless the person wants a number.

The SIM Sec. 4 has the oral exam. Some DZ's make their own written exam and this is acceptable for USPA A license requirements.

tspillers is correct and to add what he has said, DZ can make a written exam with the questions coming from the same source as the oral exam, Categories A through H. Checkout the S&TA Safety and Training Newsletter for October 2, 2003 at USPA.org on the Safety web page.

If he wants to jump with other jumpers....or travel to another DZ and be allowed to jump...me thinks he'll need his 'A' license from USPA.
