freefalle 0 #1 February 28, 2005 I am considering attempting to get my tandem ratings in the middle of the month. Im a little nervous as, for me, this is a big step in my progression. I have looked around and I am considering one of two I/E for my instruction. What did you base your decision on when selecting a I/E for your ratings, What do you think your biggest difficulty was when attempting to get your tandem ratings? Any other advise would be helpful. Thanks.
Ron 10 #2 February 28, 2005 QuoteWhat did you base your decision on when selecting a I/E for your ratings Who was available to get my rating from. The Army paid for my Vector rating with Paul Rafferty. Once Iw as out, I found a friend that was an examiner and transitioned to Strong since the DZ I live on uses them. Just find a guy and get the rating. QuoteWhat do you think your biggest difficulty was when attempting to get your tandem ratings? Its not a hard rating to get by any means. But in a very large sense it is a serious rating. You are putting someones life into your hands. Have a procedure and never break it. BIGUN 1,307 #3 March 1, 2005 My criteria was to find an I/E at a large DZ that did thousands of tandems per year. My thoughts were that they could share with me the good, the bad and the ugly... which I found and was true. Hardest part was being the passenger on the front.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
freekflyguy 0 #4 March 1, 2005 Good luck dude. I am on my BPA Tandem rating in April. Gotts say I aint looking forward to going on the front of someone, which is a requirement for going on the course. As is a minimum of 800 jumps and 8 hours free fall. The good thing is our DZ has Sigma's which is a sweet tandem sytem. BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
crutch 0 #5 March 2, 2005 Chuck, you will either like or want to get away from it after one jump. The other thing is it takes a lot out you physically compared to any other jump. I know Bram does a good job of instruction over in z-hills during the winter months. Have fun with it, if it ever becomes work, you need to step away. That is my besy advice. SCR10480 0 #7 March 2, 2005 The most difficult part of getting a Tandem Cert, is convincing your experianced friends to ride on front for you. Most licensed jumpers don't like leaving the plane with no handles. I'll ride with you. __________________________________________________
Brains 2 #8 March 2, 2005 QuoteChuck, you will either like or want to get away from it after one jump. I went through the course and i was ok with having my I/E strapped to me or other exp. skydivers. I figured i would get used to it. After the first paid tandem, i knew i hated it. It scared the crap out of me to be responsible for another person who didn't know any better. I don't do them anymore because of that. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. jgarango 0 #9 March 2, 2005 I agree with crutch. I just got my tandem rating with Bram Clement. He is a very good examiner and he can do vector or strong. I like it a lot from the beginning but the jump as a passenger wasn't the best (it feels weird!!!). Anyhow I'm just a newby. But again take crutch's advice, he knows what he's talking about. Even without cheater handles, my long arms and flexible shoulders can still reach all of the handles on the instructor's harness.
