Rewant 0 #1 September 11, 2005 Sorry but I don't understand the meaning of the word cutaway . Please try to explain it in simple words. Can I do a cutaway in the same time with tandem instructor school ???
riggerrob 643 #2 September 11, 2005 "Cutaway" means pulling the handle (on the right side of your chest) that releases the 3-rings, allowing your main parachute to separate from your harness, clearing the air to deploy your reserve (by pulling the silver handle on the left side of your chest). Intentional cutaways are rare these days, usually limited to aspiring tandem instructors who pack so neatly that they have not had a malfunction during their first 500 jumps. A few Master Riggers and tandem examiners have special harnesses for doing intentional cutaways. Intentional cutaway rigs usually have a second reserve on the front and require special training and procedures.

YahooLV 0 #5 September 13, 2005 Cutaway...get rid of a bad parachute, hope for a very good second one, spend another $50 for a skydive, buy your rigger booze, hug the crap outta them, get drunk, sober up, do it all over again! Cutaway! Ain't life cool?http://www.curtisglennphotography.com

Floats18 0 #7 September 13, 2005 Something tells me that 240 jumps MIGHT be rounding up a tad--- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
jgarango 0 #8 September 13, 2005 If you had check his profile you would have notice that he is from "Romania" (they don't speak english there). So it was a perfectly normal question even for someone with more than 200 jumps.
