Tandem Examiner First Course

Recommended Posts

Ok you tandem examiners, I'm doing my first course, teaching some Peeps to be real tandem masters / instructors. So far so good. How did you feel teaching your first course. Flunk anyone? Have a scary ride on the front of one of your students? If one of you Maggots from my course is watching, turn back NOW.

I've asked for repeat levels before but so far no full fails and no scary rides either. I remember back to my first on the back and how calm my examiner felt and how much that had an effect on me. I try and do the same. If the Examiner is ampt up and or frightened, then that will rub off on the candidate. Trust the equipment, trust what you teach and trust the guy on your back and you will have heaps of fun on the front...
Good luck

With my course I am lucky, the students are all military (or maybe that is unlucky?:P)

I add an additional jump with them were I am the passneger and it is a complete "talk through" with me. The course is as stated by RWS aside from that.

I have never had to fail any one but we have repeated a few jumps.

For me the hardest part is not taking over the canopy control and landing on thier commands;).

On the front on do not wear my better jump suits:P. Maybe I will buy a grass green and mud brown model soon?B|

Well, I got my peeps through the class and through their first four jumps today. Sure is nice having a lightly loaded Otter to jump from. These bottle babies don't yet know what it's like to cram into and out of a Cessna. :S

Only thing left is the whoopie ride to tandem terminal before pitching the drogue. (And the rest of "probation")

One of my two peeps made his first jump with a cherry student today. Chris Scaife looked like an old hand. :D :)

Just off the top of my head, (and cut and pasted from RWS web site...) :S

Minimum Require ments:

Minimum 500 tandem jumps experience (can be waved for military & foreign jumpers).
AFF / Static Line / IAD / IAF or Tandem Instructor Ratings (must have at least two of these).
Be able to qualify for the USPA Instructor/Examiner Rating or foreign equivalent.
Rigger Rating (would be really nice, but not absolutely necessary, if you possess an above average level of gear intelligence, our program is gear-intensive).
Log Books verifying your experience - we don't need all of your logs, just the last 500 tandems. Please don't come without them.
3 Letters of Recommendation (USPA Director or foreign equivalent, S&TA, Chief Instructor, drop zone owner, etc.). Absolutely Mandatory!
Note: We're looking for a solid recommendation from three (3) dependable sources that you are a mature skydiving professional that exercises good judgment. Your skydiving history should be spotless.

I am examiner for RWS since 93.
Keep everything simple.
Threat your new inst like you always did with your first time passenger. Stay calm & make sure you know what you are saying, Those potentiel new instructors will look at you exactly the same way the first time tandem passenger are ... as an instructor.
If you think you are nervus than think about them!It is not a bad idea to give your first course to only one person. If you are organize & well prepare you'll be waiting for your next course.
If I can help I will be more than happy.
