freeflydemon 0 #26 May 15, 2006 I saw an instructor who had a camera and a Newton in his helmet when he was doing an AFF. When the student pull-out for open his parachute, the pilot chute was entangled in the instructor's newton..... luckily, the instructor disentangled the pilot chute from his head (newton) when the parachute was opening and nothing happens. Belgian_Skygirl 0 #27 June 7, 2006 I am sorry for the intrusion, as I am not an instructor. I only have about 75 jumps, but all my AFF levels were caught on tape by my instructor . As you know an AFF course is expensive and I did not have the money to be videod. However, the shootings from my instructor helped me a lot to undertand what I did wrong... and I am very gratefull he filmed me. I don't know if there are any risks involved. SkymonkeyONE 4 #28 June 8, 2006 This is a really good thread and I hope it gets more and more people into the habit of jumping their cameras for "inside video". If you have the camera, why NOT jump it? As to safety, I don't use a ringsight on my Optik Illusion. I see no point at all in doing so with a .3 lens and flying in the proximity that I do for AFF (docked or released). In actuality, the only time I use a sight of any kind is when I do the occasional tandem video. On those jumps I use a set of goggles I have with a "paper asshole" to sight with. Flying-Wench 0 #29 June 8, 2006 Im an AFF student, having trouble with stage 4 and stopping turns. Third attempt this weekend, and hoping to get video so that i can see what my legs are doing. Asa far as im concerned when i jump, i have nothing from the waist down! Hoping one of the instrctors can wear a cam (im back to two JMs until i nail it), as the cost of outside vid i can ill afford. Ive already spent much on the training, repeat levels plus two tandems and video that i did at the start. In the 2 months ive been at the DZ, i havent seen many AFF students getting outside video done, just short vids for debriefing. First tandems, first AFF jumps usually get the whole deal.. and first solos (which is what i plan on doing). This has been an interesting thread, an idea of what to ask my instrctor on the weekend.
