deadwood 0 #1 December 3, 2005 I'm reaching the age where I wonder how long I should keep doing tandems. (I'll be 54 in a few weeks) Who is the oldest active tandem instructor out there? He who hesitates shall inherit the earth. Kimblair13 0 #3 December 3, 2005 My DZO is 57 and still does tandems.
jheadley 0 #4 December 3, 2005 You're not too old, a guy at my dropzone GOT his tandem rating at 57! He's 75 now and just made his 5000th jump a few weekends ago.
PeteS 0 #5 December 3, 2005 Mike Spurgeon has made over 1300 tandems this year, he is 65 or 66, over 10,000 jumps. I think over 8,000 tandems!

riggerrob 643 #10 December 3, 2005 Last thing I heard, Mr. Jones was still a tandem examiner in Alaska and he must be in his seventies. Calendar age is at best a vague measure. Health and fitness are far more important. Heck! I know plenty 20 year olds who will never be strong enough to do tandems.
BASE841 3 #11 December 3, 2005 Geez, Rich. Looking at the posts about all those Senior TIs makes me think you should be around for a long time.
lauras 0 #12 December 4, 2005 Bill Brandon at Zhills is in his mid-60s and is way more active than most jumpers in their 20s and 30s. Bill's usually pretty busy hauling tandems or doing AFF every weekend. Actually, we've got a lot of hard-core guys in their 60s and 70s. Our Max is in his early 70s and still jumping hard. We should all be that cool in our 70s!
Adriandavies 0 #13 December 5, 2005 Chris Harrison at Langar in the UK is one of the more senior TM's out there. I'm rubbish at estimating ages but I'd say that he won't see his 50's again but he is still very active taking AFF and tandem students most weekends. crazydiver 0 #14 December 5, 2005 I have a couple friends who are over 50, both from Colorado. Bill Jackson is well over 50 I believe as well as Mitch Arnold who is also an instructor examiner. Brendan McHugh is also 50 some years old. Cheers, Travis
SkymonkeyONE 4 #15 December 5, 2005 My dad will be 70 in this year and he still does the occasional tandem.
matthewcline 0 #16 December 5, 2005 I have a fond memory of him taking my Little Brother for a jump under the "pink monster" out of Domino's. That was only 7 years ago though, you knoe when he was still young and all.An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! blakeman 0 #17 December 6, 2005 I had a guy come up from Australia a few years ago to do tandems for me. He looked older than dirt. Jesus, but he was old. Must have been 200, at least. He gave me hope, let me tell ya... He was a pro. His name was Des, and last I heard he was still doing tandems in Singapore. Then again, being from Australia, he could have been a sundried 25 year old... Still, I'm pretty sure he was 200.
