For example, Pacific Skydivers pays me a salary to maintain all their student gear. They also pay me a few dollars every time I pack a reserve for a sport jumper, etc. At other DZS (i.e. Perris Valley, California) an independent company (i.e Adventure Sports Loft) pays a concession fee to operate on the DZ. ASL gets the lion's share of the sport rigging business, but they have to charge extra for the privilege of doing business on the DZ. Perris Valley Skydiving School has one of their instructors maintain all their student gear. No, I doubt if DZOs make much profit off of rigging. Pacific Skydivers hired me primarily because they needed a tame rigger to maintain their student gear. They consider rigging on sport gear "gravy."
