floridadiver81 0 #1 July 5, 2007 Would you let one of your students wear a jumpsuit that had booties? Im asking becasue im a fairly bigger guy and the biggest jumpsuit my dz has is still kind of tight and ive been told that it increases my already hella fast fall rate(150+mph as entered in my log book..im told i arch too hard during the dive flow..but its comfortable for me and if i de-arch ill tense up). I have a firefly suit that fits perfect and its a lil baggy so im thinking it would slow me down...but do ya'll think booties would add unnessessary factors to a student jump. Im about to rejump level 3 for currency and levels 4 and 5 in the same day weather permitting. What is your opinion on this matter? Also..the jumpsuit also has swoop cords but im not even attempting to use them."Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! AFFI 0 #2 July 5, 2007 What anyone here thinks has no bearing on this issue, it is up to your instructor(s) who will be jumping with you. Some instructors will allow them on a dive, some will not and I have seen some allow the suit to be worn but to tuck and tape the booties up into the legs, Talk to the instructors who will be working with you...Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
divnswoop 0 #3 July 5, 2007 What AFFI said.......But since I have met you and know the Instructors your talking about, I wouldn't be comfortable with a guy your size jumping booties since you haven't yet demostrated proper leg control or turn control in the air. (Cat C, D) There have been a few occasions when I have stuck a female in booties right off of student status but that was due to their "weight and balance". That is not to say there isn't Instructors out there that will allow you to jump with booties either....just my opinion
livendive 8 #4 July 5, 2007 QuoteWould you let one of your students wear a jumpsuit that had booties? Improbable, and certainly not before the last jump or two of AFF. I don't think I've ever done so in the past. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
floridadiver81 0 #5 July 5, 2007 Thanks for the replies guys. I just wanted to know if i would get laughed at or not. I would like to wear it....and i would have a problem with taping them up..but mine is just so much more comfortable than the only one that fits me at the dz...divnswoop..im talking about the purple on with the ass part torn out of it..im sure you saw a bigger student wearing it when you were out there. I will ask if i can..but obviously i wont be getting my hopes up. The only dumb question is the one that is not asked...at least thats what i was taught anyway "Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! floridadiver81 0 #7 July 6, 2007 because when i am really relaxed my body naturally arches...i dont really have to force it into an arch. My DZO who was my main instructor for level three wrote in my logbook to relax my arch while in freefall to slow my decent rate. Im afraid if i do that i will start potato chipping and go into a constant turn because it doesnt feel natural to me. I know i need to slow my fall rate down or else ill never be able to do RW...or if i do it will have to always be the same people...and if they arent around...ill have tojust jump solo....which is what im trying to avoid."Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! Honestly, at this point, you have no idea. All you need to concentrate on right now is the task at hand, and that is getting through each level of your student level training, and that is it. The rest will come with time, trust me… Don’t sweat what it is going to be like jumping with others at this point…Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
riggerrob 643 #9 July 6, 2007 As a PFF Instructor, I would be reluctant to allow a student to wear booties. Booties might exaggerate any leg problem. And trust me, I have seen plenty of leg awareness problems on PFF students! The good news is that it is easy to tuck the booties up inside the legs, to better ignore them. floridadiver81 0 #10 July 6, 2007 Mykel, you know i value your opinion and im not trying to argue...all i was saying was that arching as hard as i do is natural for me and it make me more comfortable. Im afraid that de arching will throw me in a bad tumle or spin."Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! Jewels 0 #11 July 6, 2007 It's one of the universal answers, I suppose, but what about practicing the de-arching process in the tunnel?TPM Sister #
PhreeZone 20 #12 July 6, 2007 If it throws you into a bad spin then arch to come out of it. Trust your instructors and Mykel... Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
floridadiver81 0 #13 July 7, 2007 I will do that..as i always check with instructors before a jump if i have any questions. There are a few people on here that i trust taking advice from though. popsjumper 2 #14 July 8, 2007 Oh God...a perfect opportunity to poke a stick at an instructor... Whassamatter? Instructors can't keep up with you? Tell 'em to learn how to arch. You've already shown them. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
