Differences between first and latest SIGMA RIGS.

Recommended Posts

What are they? I believe Sigma rig was released in year 2000, seven years later what has changed?

I noticed:

- Skyhook,
- main pin cover is now "bent" for better tuck-in,
- 'Micro Sigma' is now available,
- magnetic riser covers,
- transparent reserve pin cover flap (change ?),

What else :)

The clear reserve pin flap was there. It also appears that they have different hardware on the legs and chest strap on the newer rigs.

The crystal ball is gone with the skyhook as well.

An almost non bendable reserve pin to address riggers who over tighten closing loops to conceal P/C's from popup.

Shorter straight main pin to help prevent a hard/no pull situation if improperly stowed.

Got rid of the RSL "ball" thus removing the possibility of the ball accidentally being jammed into the large ring.

Improved the attachment of the "ball" handle on the drogue reducing the lost handle phenomena.

Improved drogue bridle. Built in replaceable sections using slinks for connections. More durable design within the "chimney" of the "disk".

Good work Mr. Booth and crew! The absolute best and safest tandem rig on the market today! My first and only choice.

And similarly:
-- Different main lift web length adjustment method, using different hardware. (Much easier to adjust.)

Minor:

-- No Skyhook to Skyhook to Skyhook II or whatever the latest version is called (hologram, anodizing, clear plastic cover with hole for safety tie, more labelling, etc)

Non-physical changes:

-- New manual
(For the Sigma rig and canopy; not just a Tandem Vector II manual that showed some archaic methods plus some incomplete add-ons for the Sigma.)

-- New reserve packing method
(Propack not a special flatpack.)

Next "advancement" I've been waiting to see......Velcroless risers and toggles.

Velcro on the risers is my only complaint about the system.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the nice handles for carrying the rigs around. I don't know if theya re an optin but out of the 4 brand new rigs we recived at my last DZ only 2 had them and 2 didn't.

Those are out (from another company) and they are awesome!

The carry handle is great as mentioned a few posts up too!

I thought the all clear window was a Micro Sigma thing and the two smaller windows was a regular Sigma thing, at least that is how I have seen the break down at the DZ I was jumping at a lot this summer and they have 12 Sigma's on the rack ready to go.

I think it is Altico, but I could be wrong, I got them attached to a Demo Tandem Canopy and boy they are nice! Red at Flight Concepts would know, that is where the Demo Canopy came from (by the way the Rage Tandem in its current line trim is awesome too!).

Both sets of my velcro equipted toggles started to fray (edges of the hook base and it is a bit unsightly).
