chris74 0 #1 April 27, 2008 Hello, Here is a translation of a safety bulletin I received today from the syndicate of the French professional parachutist : During an opening ( symmetric and without special effort ) , lineset fully expanded, riser just getting down => spontaneous cut-away of the left riser . The tandem pilot cutted away manually the right one and will follow an uneventful RSL reserve opening and landing . The main canopy will be retrieved very quickly and after inspection , the left small white closing loop was completly missing . Closing loop too small ? Bad sewings ? It is still under internal investigation and UPT has been notified first . Passenger : a light weight student Sigma : 71 jumps since new Main canopy : EZ 425 Reserve canopy : PD 360 R I will keep you in touch ASAP Blue skies Chris "TAZ" C. Original bulletins: Matériel, faits et circonstances: Tandem Sigma, 7ième saut depuis neuf. Passager léger.Voile principale EZ425 secours PD360R. J.Gamaury, Expert Judiciaire. riggerrob 643 #2 April 28, 2008 Guessing ... Maybe they forgot to bar tack the white loop before wrapping the confluence wrap around it. Rigging Innovations issued a Service Bulletin - a decade or so ago - about a similar slip in production standards.
billbooth 10 #3 May 3, 2008 I just saw the pictures. The loop was sewn correctly. It was simply ripped in half at the confluence wrap. The yellow cable was deeply scarred. It was a simply a case of mis-rigging, or riser "flip down".
