rehmwa 2 #3 October 3, 2011 Be a good jumper ------..... ....... no, better than that - (BTW being a good freeflyer doesn't automatically make anyone a good belly flyer - (being good at both is best)) do the pre-course - and listen and take it seriously Practice teaching - then practice some more (instruct, you demo first - but in "review" that means the student demos - for gosh sakes, let the student demo - overteaching really wears one out) Practice eval jumps - then practice some more Work "with" your other candidates - on the ground and in the air you almost can't be TOO aggressive while flying have fun with it - it's serious, but performance and receptivity is always better while composed and content ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
JohnMitchell 16 #4 October 9, 2011 Quote Be a good jumper ------..... ....... no, better than that - (BTW being a good freeflyer doesn't automatically make anyone a good belly flyer - (being good at both is best)) I've heard and agree that doing a lot of 4-way RW is good for AFFI candidates. It's small, fast flying, like an AFF jump. Of course, your swoop skills need to be dialed in too. Quote instruct, you demo first - but in "review" that means the student demos - for gosh sakes, let the student demo - overteaching really wears one out) One of my pet peeves is instructors that "teach" by talking at a room full of people. The real learning doesn't start until the student stands up and starts demonstrating back. That's when you can verify learning and correct mistakes. I'd like to add this: Develop a fine eye for watching the student's demonstrations. Correct all mistakes, big and small, until they learn the task correctly. It'll save a lot of frustration in the air. Quote Work "with" your other candidates - on the ground and in the air You can practice spin stops on the creepers and roll overs on the carpet again and again, until it becomes natural. Quote you almost can't be TOO aggressive while flying Agree. Don't worry about making soft, RW docks. GET THERE!Nice advice, rehmwa.
caldwellbuilder 0 #5 October 10, 2011 I have seen jumpers who first become camera flyers on tandem jumps have an easier time on air evaluations because those jumpers have developed great chase skills.
