Punky_Monkey 0 #1 January 29, 2005 Should I bring weight to the tunnel? I am still a student and currently don't fly with weights but was wondering if I should bring some to the tunnel. I do have a habit of floating a little bit. My average freefall speed was 107mph but on the last jump I got it increased to 114mph. Was thinking that not having the weight would cause me to work harder on my adjusted fall rate, and I also want to learn how to fly my body before adding weights. But someone told me that I should bring weights with me. I also will be jumping my own jumpsuit that will be in right before I leave. It has modified booties and I also have been told this might give me some lift. So the question is weights or no weights?******* Punky Monkey You may never get rid of the butterflies, but you can teach them how to fly in formation
GQ_jumper 4 #2 January 29, 2005 bring the weights with youand decide if you need them after youfly the first time in there. more importantly though, have fun, the tunnel roxHistory does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Skytender 0 #3 January 29, 2005 Because of the adjustable wind speed,.... the only time youll NEED wieghts in the tunnel is if your in there with someone else who falls faster obviously....but if you think that youll be flying with wieghts anyway in the sky, and want to get used to waering them.... go right ahead Are we not yet ready to live life for life and not for death? blazetailman 0 #4 January 29, 2005 I'm sure there will be someone there of amble experience to help you. Are you getting coaching? Ask you coach but I would suggest to wear them from word go if you had a little more experience. Not as important for you now. It will make you fly as if you would be in the air and give you much better muscle memory of what your proper body position will be. My 2 bits. Weights are good. Punky_Monkey 0 #5 January 29, 2005 Yes, I am getting coaching by Sally Hathaway. My instructor says that I will need weights in the air to fly with other people. But I need to learn how to fly my body first. Which I agree with. I think I do have a fall rate issue? They call me a feather butt at the DZ. Being new to the tunnel scene could you please explain.. ladyskydiver 0 #6 January 29, 2005 I've had Sally as a tunnel coach before. She did have me wear weights. My first time with her I didn't bring my own, and she loaned me hers. If you have weights, bring them with you and if Sally feels you need them, she'll have you put them on. Have fun. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! flyangel2 2 #7 January 29, 2005 Traveling with weights can be a pain in the ass going through security. A little trick that I learned is to take them out of my gear bag and place them in a bin so that the TSA can see what they are. They never give my rig a second look since they are wanting to know about the weights. If you are going to the tunnel in Florida, they have weight belts there that you can use if you decide not to bring your own weights. In the past I didn't fly with weights, but now I do, it sure saves my back when I'd doing lots of time.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.
