kansasskydiver 0 #1 April 4, 2005 I've flown in both tunnels however the Perris tunnel treated me better. I'm not sure when Orlando upgraded their motors (before or after I flew) but I had a really hard time getting off the net on my back, then in Perris 3-4 months later it was a piece of cake Reason I ask is cause I'm returning to the Orlando tunnel at the end of the month and was curous if I'll be dealing with the same difficulty flying due to smaller engines. FYI I flew in Orlando in July of last year and in Perris early November<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
arlo 0 #2 April 4, 2005 dude, if your profile is correct, then that puts you 280 pounds out the door. if that's the case, then it's no wonder you didn't get off the net in orlando. how tall are you? if you're super tall, then it'd be easier to fly. if you're like 5'5", then it wasn't gonna happen anyway. #1) middle of july the tunnel can fly slow and "mushy" due to the ambient air temp...which in the summer is usually a million degrees with a millon percent humidity. being in perris in november would normally give you cooler, drier air to fly in. 2) your experience level hopefully changed for the better between july and november and you'd have a better feel of how to fly your body. 3) did you lose weight between july and nov? in all seriousness, if you weighed 280 in july in orlando, IMO you shouldn't have been backflying anyway. don't take that personally (which alot of folks tend to do sometimes) but max weight is max weight and the fans can only do so much. PM me the instructor's name if you'd like. i'm curious to see why you were freeflying in there anyway. my brother weighs in at almost 250 and he was in the biggest(yellow) suit that skyventure had and he was flying dead spider, but still managed to get up a bit - and that was pre-retrofitted motors. btw, motors were upgraded 2003. hope this helps. if i'm way off base, PM me. enjoy your next trip to orlando!!! most of the instructors there rock. :) arlo

I know the ability level that I gained in 3-4 mons was incredible. I was hoping he had learned more in the mean time too.Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
justinb138 0 #4 April 4, 2005 I'm about 5'7 and 220 and didn't have any trouble at all while I was there. It wasn't hot outside, and I was wearing my big heavy-cotton RW suit, but had no trouble getting off of the net. My avg fall rate is around 130-140. Ron 10 #5 April 4, 2005 QuoteFYI I flew in Orlando in July of last year and in Perris early November Outside Air temp, Altitiude, and Humidity all effect the density of the air. Hot, High and Humid is a pain in the ass if you are flying. Dry, Cold, and Sea Level is great. Florida in July is Hot and Very Humid....It makes a big guy like you have some problems in any tunnel (also makes take offs longer). Fl is at sea level however. Perris is 1500 feet msl. In Nov they have cool conditions and it is VERY dry. Florida in Nov is nice and not as dry, but not humid either. So given the same conditions both tunnels are the same. Perris in July would have altitude and hot air working against it. Orlando in July has Hot, and humidity working against it."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,

Actually I only weigh 260, with all my gear and camera crap I'm pushing 300 out the door. In July however I weight 235 in Orlando. In Nov I weight 253 in Perris and flew no problem. I'm 6ft and you couldn't tell I weighed 260 dry if you saw me. Quote2) your experience level hopefully changed for the better between july and november and you'd have a better feel of how to fly your body. That's kinda what I was thinking too, but it had been so long since. I think it has more to due with the humidity like you guys said. I was wearing 2 suits in Orlando vs just one in Perris Quote3) did you lose weight between july and nov? in all seriousness, if you weighed 280 in july in orlando, Actually I gained weight between the 2 tunnels. 235 in Orlando and 253 in Perris. I weigh between 255-260 now with clothes on. Again as I said, if you looked at me you'd figure I weighed 220 or so. I had no problem freeflying in the tunnel in Perrix. Sit and back flying was perfectly fine, that's why I figured there was some difference somewhere. Being a fatass has made me have to improve on my flying skills, especially because 90% of the jumps I do are with students (belly or corking across the sky in a sit) and tandems. arlo<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
