JoeG 0 #1 April 4, 2005 There are two tunnels I know about locally to use. One is Flyaway in Pidgeon Forge TN, and the other is BodyFlight in Maggie Valley NC. Can anyone give me pro's and con's about both of these? I hear Flyaway doesn't have enough air to truly simulate freefall, is this true? Thanks very much ~joe~_________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"
Paige 0 #2 April 4, 2005 I flew in Las Vegas FlyAway last week. I flew just over 40 minutes and had a blast. It will be nothing like the L1 in NC, if you are looking to improve skydiving, go for the L1. The FlyAway tunnel was more of an amusement ride where as the L1 could be used for training for AFF more successfully, I think. But I'm sure I've been proven wrong, just my 2 cents. I had one hell of a good time in Las Vegas. FlyAway treated us like gold, staying 2 hrs. late our first night and opening 2 hrs. early our last day in town! Thanks to DAWN who got us the hook up with Keith. Ari and I had a blast but its not the same as other tunnels. Look into both and choose.Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 April 4, 2005 If you want to spend your money wisely, then you will go to the FAR more realistic L1 tunnel in Maggie Valley.
matthewcline 0 #4 April 5, 2005 Ditto on what Chuck said. I will tell you more thursday night after my next 3 hours of flight in NC on Wednesday. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Bodyflight.Net 0 #6 April 6, 2005 Hi Joe, You have heard correctly, Flyaway does not have enough air to simulate freefall, however, it's alot of fun and a great place to visit when your on vacation!!! Additionally, you'll find their flight time SLIGHTLY cheaper (a few bucks) than time at the L1 in N.C. Cons of flyaway are obviously poor freefall simulation, you can't wear your own gear, it's very hot inside the tunnel, it's very loud inside the tunnel and most of the instructors are not skydivers. Pros to L1, are obviously the outside enviroment, clean & solid high speed air, any suit you have will work wonderfully, or there are a selection of Tony & Michigan suits available for use. The air is always cool, and solid. Your coach at L1 will have several hundred skydives and decades experience teaching in VWTs across the world. It's a relaxed, nearly private environment and the surrounding area is picture perfect! Fly in the sky!! oh, and NO EARPLUGS ARE REQUIRED... ( you can hear a nearby weed eater over the tunnel sound!!!!) Cons to L1? Little more expensive than flyaway, there are only a few hotels nearby and very little else to do beside enjoy nature & Fly (but I'm not complaining), You have to buy a minimum of 15 minutes, no walk-ins, flights are by reservation only, so you have to plan ahead. I say go to L1, of course, it's the best choice if your going to be in the area! Pink Suits, Blue Skies, & Fast Air, Dawn Suiter

JoeG 0 #9 April 8, 2005 Thanks for all the replies guys. I was out of town for a couple of days this week so I just got back. I am scheduling some time at the NC tunnel this weekend to work on my freefall skills. I am sure flyaway is fun, but I really can't afford that much for something that isn't really helping me learn skydiving. Once again thanks for your help! ~joe~_________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"
