Cross Training

Recommended Posts

I've kind of reached a point where I've decided that I like RW & freefly both too much to give either one up, so I'm pretty much committed to both. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll progress slower in both than others with similar jump numbers who devote most of their time to one or the other discipline. I'm OK with that.
Here's my dilemma. Does anyone have any suggestions for the optimal way to "cross-train"? By that I mean, say I do between 4-6 jumps in a weekend. Would it be better to devote all of my jumps in one weekend to one style and alternate weekends (i.e. one wekend is "RW weekend" and the next is "freefly weekend")? Or would it be more productive to split my jumps 1/2 and 1/2 each weekend?
I'm sure other "cross train" sports, such as track & field, have worked out strategies for scheduling your training to optimize improvement across disciplines. Thoughts?

Make it a point to jump with everyone there. That way it will ensure you aren't wasting time waiting around. It will also get everyone at the DZ comfortable with your flying skills in both disciplines. Or ostracized cause you suck.......

Ok Zen, I'm not sure what Cross Dressing has to do with skydiving.....but whatever floats your boat, man! :D
Seriously, though....don't worry about how to break up the jumps, just do whatever you can whenever you can, and you'll get a feel for which needs work more.. If you get a chance to jump with an awesome freeflyer, don't pass it up because it's your "RW day"..

Zennie,
I have the same dilemma. I try to mix the jumps, but the trouble is, if you start doing 4 way on the saturday and you do a few jumps, then you're pretty much gonna be with them all weekend. I tend to do a day of RW, realise I've had enough of that for the weekend and then freefly on the Sunday to just chill out and fun jump.
It's funny but RW is like work and FF is the fun part to relax! I love both, but trying to get a balance is difficult when both types of flyers are asking you to jump with them. If I've done some good 4 way one weekend, then wanting to do FF on the next saturday, I have to turn them down. They then get someone else in their 4 way, so you're stuck doing FF all weekend!
It's difficult, you're right! I've not found the right balance yet....

Then again, I could be making it all up. I'm really a spotty youth, trolling you all from my parents computer, when I should be in bed.....
