Here's an ignorant question.....

Recommended Posts

I have some weird shoe issues going on :S

For some reason, I've tried 2 different pairs of shoes and switching out the laces, but they will NEVER stay tied in the tunnel. Especially when backflying.

So, lets have it, what brand of kicks do you wear in the tunnel (I notice a lot of skateboarder type shoes), and whats your best double knotting technique...

I told you it was ignorant :)

When tying, start with a normal bow, but instead of going around once, go around twice before pulling the bow through, then take the bow ears and loose ends of the laces and make one more knot above the first. Hard to explain, but as a tunnel instructor, I never have mine come untied that way.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I have a pair of Chuck's with laces plus a velcro strap that I use to hold the laces in place this is probably going to be your best option if you can manage to find a pair at your local cheap clothing/shoe store.

Don't disrespect just because you can't hang in my tunnel. Here's to blue skys and cool recirculating tunnels.

It's the nature of the beast - even with booties, those laces come undone!!!

Tie the laces triple or quadruple times or if you have shoes that have a loop at the back, tie the bow, thread the laces through the loop and then secure with another bow.

The trick is to have as little of the ends of the laces in the wind flow.

Top tip for peeps wearing rw suits - put a bit of tape near the top of the zip. There is nothing worse than your jump suit coming undone during flying in the tunnel - especially if you are a guy and the zip comes down and gets caught in the "you know where" (I've seen it happen to a guy and they had to stop the tunnel to let him out).

I wear a pair of etnies with single not. Hell I dont think I even tied one of my shoes when I flew...just had the laces tucked in the shoe. No problems with either.

There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

Buy tight leather climbing shoes.
Soak 'em in hot water for an hour.
Strap 'em on real tight the night before
If they are laces, mush a bunch of bubble gum into the knot
Sleep in them all night

When your feet fall off the next morning, you won't have to worry about shoes or laces.

Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

he he he... I used to always say you can always tell a freeflyer in the tunnel because their shoe laces are always untied...

Then... I looked down at my feet the first time I was on my back and saw MY shoe laces untied and laughed... :P
