freeflir29 0 #26 August 19, 2001 "why don't people that aren't comfortable/competent under canopy take the initiative to pursue them?"Because stupid people, just like crazy people, dont know that they are stupid. If they realized they were stupid. They wouldn't be stupid...would they? LOL Some would have it the smart peoples fault that the stupid people are stupid. Which makes them....stupid......"I've got pieces of corn in my crap bigger than him" -Fat BastardClay
Iflyme 0 #27 August 20, 2001 QuoteOk, Frank - let's take it one step further.. People that don't skydiving feel that it's unacceptable to lose ONE SINGLE LIFE from something as stupid as skydiving.. Let's ban skydiving for the sake of those people.. After all, sometimes you have to give up a tiny bit of freedom to reduce the potential for disaster....right, Frank?C'mon, Mike - now you are being silly. Don't put words in my mouth. I did not in any way suggest skydiving be banned. Re-read my post Mike. I'm talking about people who die under a fully functional canopy because they have not received suffient instruction on how to deal with a variety of dangerous situations that can arise quickly. And I did not suggest you oppose better training, either! BTW, sorry to hear about the fellow who got hurt -- could better training have made a difference? Sounds like it...As for your comments, Clay, you seem to place little value on the lives of others. You dismiss people who may not be as agressive and/or skilled as you, and imply that they don't belong in the sport. QuoteIf you can't handle the sport go home! If your depth perception and or canopy control skills suck dont whine to me that there should have been a "Rule" to keep you from killing/maiming yourself. I, the DZ, nor anyone else is responsible for an "Up jumper's" safety during canopy flightHow did you draw the conclusion that I feel you or the DZ is responsible for another jumper's canopy skills? Maybe you were reading between the lines...? I said - very clearly - that perhaps the groups that self-regulate this sport need to increase the minimum standards in canopy training for students. And it would seem your egocentric view of the world has led you astray... no, I didn't vote for Clinton. Not everyone on this forum lives in the same country as you, Clay. I'm Canadian.. Skystorm 0 #28 August 21, 2001 C'mon people, even the most experienced skydiver can make a mistake. We're only human. I know a few swoopgods who misjudged themselves pretty often, and had to deal with it.
freeflir29 0 #29 August 21, 2001 "I'm Canadian"No offense but this explains some things. If their are rules I, by default as being a skydiver (the USPA is a body that self regulates skydiving so "our" government doesn't get involved) become responsible for enforcing these rules. Thus, I, the DZ, and DZ staff become responsible for the safety of jumpers even if they choose to perform HP manuevers. Death is inevitable. I dont fear it. The weaker and not so smart tend to die a little faster than the smarter of any species. Stupid people kill themselves every day. Smart people make mistakes and die every day as well as stupid people that make mistakes and kill smart people. LOL No I dont feel sorry for them. I will die without regrets.
