Aviatrr 0 #27 August 18, 2001 Quote Well, I've never seen anyone intentionally leave the chest strap undone, just really loose. But I have seen leg straps loosened completely to the end of the strap quite often. I've also seen people trying to get their booties on their feet on jump run. Well, I, personally, think that if somebody is not ready to make a low emergency exit when they board, they are a fool.. Yea, you could exit with the leg straps totally loosened, and most people would probably be able to reach the toggles, but not a good idea.. The chest strap....well, there's no reason to leave it unfastened - and I have seen people do this intentionally many times.. I guess that's part of the Darwinian selection process.. As for the booties...well, if you walk around with those things on, they will wear out damn fast.. I certainly don't have a problem with people not putting them on until jumprun.. Jumping without them on will not cause any safety problems.. Mike
VivaHeadDown 0 #28 August 18, 2001 Someone said that they wouldn't say something if they saw someone's mistake because they didn't feel they had enough jumps...PLEASE CHANGE YOUR MIND. I understand that people are stupid and some are eventually going to end up killing themselves by accident, but some people really do care about safety and would even buy you a beer in gratitude for pointing out something like that. I made the mistake once when I was new, and it'll always stick with me the feeling of looking down to see what I had done after someone pointed it out to me. With all the details that can not be overlooked, it's good to know you've got friends out there just in case.Don't get me wrong, this sport is PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY bottom line. But if every minor mistake ended with someone's death we'd all be flat eventually.Moral of my story: Don't spank it in, and don't let anyone else either. Michele 1 #29 August 18, 2001 Hi, Cheshire Cat...Quote 20+ replies speaking about importance of following procedures and checking everything. Not a single thought about HOW TO ALTER THIS DETAIL to prevent this problem (chest strap misroute)Just curious as to your suggestions as to alter/prevent this detail. I can't give any because I am way too new to even understand the complexities of the harness, let alone comment intelligently on it, or suggest any kind of modifications..... ciel bleu-Michele"What of the dreams that never die? NewGuy 0 #30 August 18, 2001 Quote20+ replies speaking about importance of following procedures and checking everything. Not a single thought about HOW TO ALTER THIS DETAIL to prevent this problem (chest strap misroute)Ok, ok, ok...How about the Chest strap connects with a B12 clip (or another snap-in) and tightens like a pair of goggles. This would avoid misrouting. All you would need to check is that you have it on, and that the B12 snap is working (not sticking). Oh, more checks.... back to the drawing board, anything that requires a check is not fool proof!Cheers,NewGuy

bbbilly14 0 #32 August 19, 2001 And I once thought I was paranoid for forgetting to zip my jumpsuit up all the way and velcroing it shut! I don't leave the hangar without being fully tightened on all straps, whether it is for freeflying or RW (well, hardly ever RW, watching tandems is more exciting than RW). I think I check 'em all ten times gefore I even get on the plane (the "Holy Trinity Check" (handles, harness, rings), then I check them again two or three times before jump run. Then I check them AGAIN before I get to the door. Call me whatever you will, but I live to skydive, and even relatively minor injuries mean I can't jump for at least a couple of weeks. That sucks enough, let alone getting killed. Then I can't skydive at all!BE CAREFUL!! I think we all forget what that really means, especially out of the mouth of a skydiver.Billy"Son, you've got a panty on yer head!"
