I kept MEANING to take it in, but the weather finally cleared up, and...well, you know.I really want to jump it this weekend, but I'm a little worried. Is it safe to fudge the 4-year checks by a couple of months? It goes through the cycle just fine when I turn it on, and the batteries are still okay.On a related note, must you have the reserve repacked THE VERY DAY four months have gone by? Is it a safety issue or a legal issue? (This is just rhetorical.)I'm not trying to duck the rules or anything. I want to keep myself safe, but I also want to jump this weekend. It probably is still fine, I dont know-LOLYou dont have to get your reserve repacked EXactly the day it is due, but you wont be able to jump it if its out of date and some one saees it-LOL- I heard PD did a test on reserves being packed for different amount of times up to something like a year, and there was virtually no difference in openings. Silk had a higher degredation rate. Today with modern reserves, there isnt the need to pull these things out as often. That is why the USPA is looking to make a reserve repack 120 days. This is set by the federal government. This is not to say you can't get it repacked early, it does not have to be repacked on the expiration date per say. Your DZO most likely would not be happy if he knew you were jumping an out of date reserve. Personally, I would turn the CYPRES off if it was mine and it was already due for it's checkup and finish out the weekend of jumping and get it taken out. Besides the checks are due every 4 years from the MANUFACTURE date until they expire, not the date you decided to turn it in. I left mine off for a few jumps in December, I was not so much worried about it not firing on time, but missfiring when it is not supposed to. I just did my scheduled 4 year Cypres Maintenance last month, its very expensive, but, better safe than sorry. SSK sent my Cypres back with quite a bit of information, included was a sheet that tells me that you can be +/- 3 months on the maintenance dates, I would be scared to push it past there though. My baby is with my rigger right now for the same thing.You can probably safely jump it this weekend, but if its your first trip to the dz this year, and your reserve is out of date, they probably won't let you jump it anyway. Most dzs have you renew your paperwork and waivers once a year and they will check your rig and reserve card at that time. Our manifest is all computerized, and we can't manifest with a reserve out of date. Yes, there are ways around that, but this is a safety forum so lets not go there....Also, your rigger will not repack your reserve without sending the cypres in.Please be safe and don't fudge it past this weekend! maybe you can rent or borrow gear? Not the best option, but anything to get your knees in the breeze, right! Nor will I pack it if the CYPRES batteries expire in that 120 day period. Are there any other Riggers out there that agree/diagree?-You have a 6 month window (+/- 3 months from the date of manufacture) to get your CYPRES serviced.
