JerryBaumchen 1,354 #26 January 20, 2013 Hi John ( and Andy ), QuoteI've pulled a front mount reserve. Definitely a hell of an experience. I've pulled two, both at terminal. You do not forget those experiences. Now back to your regular schedulled programming. JerryBaumchen

Definitely a hell of an experience. My only opening of a chest mount was a borrowed cutaway rig. No sleeve or diaper, packed just like the old QAC reserves. I stood on the 182 step facing the tail, hopped off, and pulled. I think the canopy was finishing opening as I passed under the tail. Holy crap, that thing opened fast!!!"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. michaelmullins 81 #28 January 24, 2013 QuoteQuoteI hope you don't mind my asking because I would seriously like to know. If I've done a tandem and didn't "freak out" in a strange way. Why isn't it possible to do a tandem where I can face the instructor? The harness was not designed to fit the human body in that way. So, The safety margins are compromised too much. So, It's against the rules. Because, It's not safe. Actually, I have seen it done several times. The passenger doesn't put the harness on backwards, the passenger puts the harness on the normal way and simply faces the instructor, hooks up the same way. Although I don't recommend it, I see no particular danger in doing it. Mike
rrmtopo 1 #29 January 26, 2013 At some point in the mid/late 80s I had seen the "missionary" harness used exactly that way at Deland, and I remember it was made specifically for that position.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #31 January 27, 2013 I can name at least three people who have done it at least once, but I won't. one passenger had the harness on backwards and two had the harness on the regular way; none had any problems. All passengers exited with their legs between the TM's legs and their arms around the TM's neck prior to drogue throw. All were with "modern" harnesses with belly/butt bands. Two were out of helicopters at a beach boogie and one was out of an Otter at a regular DZ. All three landed on their feet because winds were around 10-15 mph. No biggie. Abedy 0 #36 January 28, 2013 Hehe, I liked your old avatar pic better. This one looks like a "Funkenmariechen" (Rhine Carnival Majorette so to say) Some pics and this one (you'll need to have it translated by Google, though) provides some background info as the customs goes back to the time the Rhine region was occupied by Napoleon... BTW: Came to mind as the Carnival season is about to start here. (I'm dreading it.) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. gregpso 1 #37 January 28, 2013 I opened a chest mounted reserve in 1981 at terminal at pakenham Vic Aust. yep you guessed it I pulled the wrong bloody handle at opening time. A very painful experience flat 20 ft round reserve no sleeve. Opened fast but ouch to the max. prob lucky I was only 22 then.. no injuries just sore for a week. kinda proud i went back next week and did 2 more jumps.. then made return some 28 years later and banged out another 26. Now retired for various reason (foot in mouth disease) Now about Skyhooks (still waiting for my royalty cheque Bill !!! )I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
