redwing120 0 #1 March 18, 2015 A friend of mine is moving to the USA and has enough experience to become a Tandem Pilot, but he has an old skydiving injury where he broke his femur and he has 3 long rods in his leg. This is fine in his country but will this a problem in the US?David Di Filippo redwing120@gmail.com 828-768-5309
TheCaptain 2 #2 March 18, 2015 He needs to get a class 3 fight physical but that has nothing to do with the rods in his leg. As long as he can perform the job of a tandem instructor as far as physically get in and out of the plane and perform the skydive he should be just fineKirk He's dead Jim
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #3 March 19, 2015 I know a TI who has rods in both femurs, and a screw (or maybe 2) in his pelvis. It doesn't present a problem getting his 3rd class."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." riggerrob 643 #4 March 19, 2015 The long-term question is whether the rods increase the risk of re-fracturing his leg bones. Students do stupid stuff during landings. TIs often jolt their leg bones and I have seen a dozen TIs sprain or break their legs even after they flew a perfect approach.
