JohnRich 4 #1 February 18, 2004 Here is my bright idea for the week. You are all familiar with the "sticky" threads, which a moderator only can create, which causes them to stay at the top of the thread list, so that they have maximum visibility to all readers. Well, my idea is a spin-off from that functionality. I think it would be nice to have *personal* sticky threads. In other words, we could flag certain threads ourselves, which would appear at the top of the thread list, in our own personal view of the forum. 95% of the threads we read, are things that we view once, or not at all, and then want to forget. However, there are always a special few which we want to follow on a long-term basis. The problem is, those threads wiggle their way far down in the list, and we have to hunt for them through multiple screens to find them each day. So, wouldn't it be nice if we could highlight our own special threads which we want to follow, and have them remain at the top of our list until we choose we no longer want to watch them? I would like to have these conveniently located at the top of the list, and allow all the other unimportant stuff to scroll downward. It would work sort of like the personal message forum, where your messages remain until you specifically flag them for deletion. I realize this would be technically difficult, which may be a killer for the idea. But if you can do it for moderator sticky threads, then all you need is a 2nd level of sticky flags, customized by User ID. When the program finds threads flagged for a matching User ID, it slap them up at the top of the list, just as it does now for a moderator sticky flag. Whatcha think? Am I dreaming? Oh yes, I've tried that option, and didn't like it. It dumps a lot of stuff into your e-mail in-box, and pesters you continuously. Then you still have to go back to DZ.com to reply. What I'm envisioning is something that would just display my chosen threads at the top of the list, so that they are easy to find when I decide to sign in to DZ.com. mr2mk1g 10 #6 February 19, 2004 I like the idea assuming its practical to put in place. Watching threads is fine for the ultra important stuf such as an incident your involved with or something, but it would be great run-of-the-mill threads you want to regularly contribute to at the top of the page until you unchecked the box. Threads like that are often high volue which would fill your inbox were you to watch them. I have no idea if it feasable from programming point of view though.
