changing usernames

Recommended Posts

Nope. There's no way to do that and I'm not going to implement that either. As it is it's difficult enough to deal with anonymous users. Having the ability to change your username every day or hour erodes the little accountability people have in online forums even further. :)

>>For what it's worth, I feel that accountability is a big key for the cohesiveness of online communities. Anonymity allows users to circumvent the social norms of face to face etiquette, in a way similar to motorists (most people don't flip other people off unless they're driving :D). As DZ.com continues to grow, and if anonymity is left unchecked, the signal to noise ratio will decrease dramatically. IP logging and allowing only one username per user is positive step in the right direction.

>>Perhaps a user-group for each forum may be helpful, where a team of individual community leaders specializing in a particular forum topic could resolve disputes and help re-emphasize site policy on a local level. I feel this would help build a sense of community ownership and reduce the need for an ever increasing number of moderators.
